AS Roma star Leandro Paredes is being linked with a move away from the Serie A side and there are a whole host of teams looking to sign up the 22-year-old. The Argentine was away on loan at Empoli last season as he made 28 league appearances for the side and scored two goals.
Juventus are one of the clubs looking to sign up the midfielder but Liverpool and Leicester City are also rumoured to be in the race to bring the talented player to the club. The Liverpool link does seem to be a little off seeing that the club already have a ton of midfielders but it could be possible that the Brazilian Lucas Leiva would be leaving the club sooner rather than later.
Paredes might seem to be surplus to requirements at the Italian club but he certainly can do a decent job in the centre of the park. The 22-year-old can play either as an attacking midfielder or even a defensive one but he is known more for his defensive qualities than for the ones going forward.
The Roma star would be great for Liverpool in this role seeing as only Emre Can is the one player who can play in the defensive midfielder’s role but even the German is a marauding tank most of the time and you cannot always hold him back when the team goes out to attack the opposition.
Liverpool need someone who can stop the opposition, especially when they get caught out in the Jurgen Klopp Gegenpressing mode and Paredes can be that man. The Argentine is known for him tackling and ability to intercept the ball, which would be a great asset to have at the Merseyside club.
The Reds are certainly short in respects of quality midfielders who can keep the opposition at bay. Jordan Henderson was played in a similar role in the game against Arsenal and the Englishman struggled even if Arsenal did not hit top gear at the Emirates.
That would certainly have been a major worry for Liverpool and for Jurgen Klopp. Lucas Leiva could have played in that role but his movement and speed is just not there anymore and he could be used as a makeweight to sign up the talented Argentine.
Jurgen Klopp has spent wisely in the summer and even the big money signing, Sadio Mane, looks like an incredible purchase at the moment. The AS Roma man might not cost more than €15 million and that would be a steal considering the fact that e is only 22 years of age and could turn out to be a great signing for the future.
And that is exactly what Paredes is, he probably would not start games for Liverpool now seeing as to how he would need to acclimatise to the English conditions but he would be playing under one of the most dynamic managers in the world and with Klopp at the helm, the sky is the limit for Paredes.
It would be a tough fight for Liverpool to bring him to the club seeing that Juventus are also in the running but the possibility of playing first-team football on a regular basis could be enticing for a player that needs to stamp his authority and make his way to the Argentine national side.
Paredes is not the finished article but in a team that does not have quality in the defensive midfielder’s role, the Argentine can be the king amongst the paupers.
