A tumultuous summer is expected at Derby County, with new players arriving in Gary Rowett’s own image, a new CEO needed upstairs, and plenty of players going out the door too.
While it is difficult to predict which players Rowett would buy, until we get a clear picture of what sort of player he will target in his first full transfer window as manager, it’s easier to predict which players will be allowed to leave the club. Nick Blackman and Abdoul Camara are two who may be shown the door, though there would be little surprise in that. Here are 3 other deals Derby could complete in the next few months:
It wouldn’t not be surprising to see Derby recruit a new central defender and the obvious target would be Newcastle United’s Scotland international. Hanley has already been targeted by Derby and Wolves, who may battle it out for his signature. It looks like Toon manager Rafa Benitez would allow the player to leave, and his experience and ability at Championship level will be hard to beat.
Hanley is only 25 and can still get better as a centre-back, but has already chalked up 161 appearances at this level for Blackburn and Newcastle as well as gaining vital experience playing for Scotland. Players of this quality aren’t made available so easily every summer and so he could prove a real bonus signing for Derby.
Apparently, Ince will be made available for £10million this summer by Derby. His quality is not in doubt and there will be no shortage of suitors. Rafa Benitez and Newcastle are reportedly still interested, but whether that will still be the case after they sign Christian Atsu, remains to be seen.
Selling Ince, as a matter of fact, makes sense. Should they manage to claw in the £10million fee they are looking for, Derby will still have made a profit on the former Hull City man and will use the money to finance Gary Rowett’s overhauling of the playing squad.
The veteran striker has done all that was expected of him this season at Derby, with the 33-year-old scoring 13 times from 42 appearances all in all. His time definitely seems to be up, with Derby potentially able to grab just a small fee for the former England striker, given that he has a year left on his contract.
Norwich City may lose Steven Naismith this summer and although they could sign young players, Bent’s experience could be crucial to them as they look to improve on this season’s 8th placed finish.
