Three Reasons Why Arsenal Should Capture Moussa Dembele From Celtic

Arsenal have shown interest in signing French forward Moussa Dembele from Celtic in the summer, according to reports from The Express.

The 21-year old sensation took the Scottish footballing scenes by storm last season, following his free transfer from Fulham last summer and played a pivotal role in the club completing a historic domestic treble. Following his explosive campaign, the recently-capped France international has been monitored by several European giants and it remains to be seen if his future lies at the Celtic Park come next season.

The Gunners have been proactive in the transfer market, having signed Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette already. But manager Arsene Wenger remains focused on adding more talent to the squad in order to mount a title challenge next season and return to the prestigious Champions League tournament.

And here are three reasons why they should go all out to add Dembele to their roster as well.

Goals, Goals and Goals

With Dembele, Wenger and Arsenal will be guaranteed goals and in large numbers. In his first season with the Hoops, the former Fulham man banged in a total of 32 goals in 49 games across all competitions. And if not for a serious thigh injury late in the season, that kept him out for close two months, that tally would have been definitely much more impressive.

Dembele possesses all the necessary traits and attributes to be a huge success in England. The Frenchman has shown great technical ability, has the speed and has shown that he can tough it out in a physical league like the Scottish Premiership. And the fact that he can also play down the left-flank makes him an ideal prospect for the Gunners.

Alexis Sanchez’s Imminent Departure

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that without Alexis Sanchez, last season would have been much worse for Arsenal. The Chilean international was inarguably their best player, as he finished with 24 goals in the Premier League – the third highest in the division. Across all competitions, he was involved in 49 goals for the Gunners, scoring 30 and assisting 19 more, indicating the sort of impact he had on the team.

With just a little under a year left on his current contract with the club, Wenger is keen to get him to sign a new deal at the earliest. However, the player has made his intentions clear that he wants to leave the club in the summer, as he recently stated that he wants to be playing in the Champions League. Manchester City have shown heavy interest in signing him and French club PSG too have entered the race (Sun). Following his statements, it is likely that an exit is on the cards.

And bringing in Dembele as a replacement will heal that blow, at least to some extent. He plays in similar positions to Sanchez, will get you goals and has the ability to produce that spark in a match to turn things around.

Statement of Intent

After Arsenal missed out on Champions League, many were soon to rule out the club from being in contention to make big signings. But the North Londoners disproved all those doubters in style by beating several other big clubs to capture Alexandre Lacazette for a club record £52million fee.

That transfer indicated the power and the pull that the Gunners still have in the transfer market. And if they manage to top it up with the capture of Dembele, who is being chased by a number of heavyweights, it would send out a huge warning signal to the rest of the title challengers, that Wenger means business.
