Predicted Manchester United Lineup To Face West Ham United On The Opening Day Of The Premier League Campaign
Manchester United’s league campaign did not come to a pretty end last time around but they will hope to make a strong start to the season, that starts this weekend. The Red Devils face a tricky test first up as they welcome West Ham United; a new and much-improved one under Slaven Bilic, to Old Trafford in what will be the final game of the first matchday in the Premier League.
The Hammers will not make it easy for the Red Devils who will have to be at their best to take all three points from this game.
Manchester United have limited injuries going into this game. Jesse Lingard picked up a knock recently but could yet make the bench while the likes of Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are the only casualties ahead of this game.
Manager: Jose Mourinho
GK – David de Gea
The Spaniard is arguably one of the best in the world and there is no way that he’d be left out of the team. An absolutely certain starter.
RB – Antonio Valencia
The skipper of the side this season, Antonio Valencia was stupendous in the loss to Real Madrid in the Super cup recently and should start at right-back.
CB – Eric Bailly
The senior centre-back in the side at the moment, Bailly is expected to be the first choice defender for Mourinho and should start this weekend.
CB – Victor Lindelof
The new-buy for United, Lindelof has not made a great start to his time in Manchester and will be up against a tricky opposition lead by an exciting striker in Chicharito.
LB – Matteo Darmian
Neither Luke Shaw nor Daley Blind have impressed Mourinho enough to start this game and with Marcos Rojo injured, Darmian is the only option at left-back for this tie.
CDM – Nemanja Matic
The former Chelsea man is one of the most experienced midfielders in the country and is the perfect fit for Manchester United, playing as the deepest of the midfielders against West Ham.
CM – Ander Herrera
The Player of the Season for United last campaign, Herrera should be the first choice midfielder this season as well and will be a handful for the Hammers’ midfield in this game.
CM – Paul Pogba
The French midfield ace had a mixed time in his first season back at Old Trafford but will hope to make a better start to his second season at the club as a first-team star.
RW – Henrikh Mkhitaryan
The former Dortmund man was unable to keep himself fit for a good chunk of last season but he is now fully fit and is raring to go. He will be a huge threat to West Ham in front of goal.
LW – Marcus Rashford
The English youngster was one of the most impressive players last season for United and he should start this game over Lingard and Martial on the left wing.
ST – Romelu Lukaku
The record buy for Manchester United this summer, Lukaku will be the third new player in the squad that Jose Mourinho should field in the starting XI for the first league game of United’s season.
This is how they might line up:
