Chelsea, the reigning Premier League champions, are struggling big time to gather momentum in the league and despite a thrilling away victory against Atletico Madrid in the prestigious Champions League competition, the Blues surrendered against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge ahead of the international break.
Conte, the Italian gaffer, exiled hitman Diego Costa following a rift and replaced him with Spaniard Alvaro Morata as their new striking sensation. The ex-Real Madrid star has made early impressions with his goal-scoring ability, however, the Blues lack a decent cover who can step up in his absence.
Michy Batshuayi is there, who has scored a few crucial goals for the London giants, but the young Belgian is yet to create any significant impact and Chelsea are now looking to bring in a more established as well as an experienced attacker in January after failing to land veteran Spaniard Fernando Llorente who opted to join their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Winter transfer window doesn’t usually provide enough quality options to acquire but the Blues, nevertheless, might still have one quality back-up forward if they wish to explore these resources.
Current Club: Atalanta
The Argentine attacker has been a real influence for Nerazzurri as he helped them in surviving relegation in his debut campaign during the 2014-15 season. His performance improved in the following campaign as he contributed massively in terms of goals and assists. The £13.5m rated Gomez netted 16 league goals last term and played a pivotal role in a sensational 4th placed league finish.
He has started the new season brightly with 5 goals in 9 outings altogether. The player has earned two caps for Jorge Sampaoli’s Argentina this year and netted on his debut against Singapore. He is strong, pacy and is capable of playing in multiple attacking roles. Gomez will be a decent back-up for the Blues, who is in the pick of his career at this moment.
Current Club: TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
The 26-year-old German forward was brought in by Hoffenheim following a high-scoring campaign for Eredivisie outfit SC Heerenveen. He has mostly been introduced from the bench and has left an impact with his goal-poaching instincts, in the past two campaigns. He was an influence in Hoffenheim’s ‘top four’ league finish and has started this campaign well by scoring 6 goals in 8 appearances across all competitions. He is tall, powerful and is known for his finishing trait. Chelsea must seek a move for him in January, as he is quite capable of performing in the Premier League.
Wissam Ben Yedder
Current Club: Sevilla
The former Toulouse striker had a decent debut campaign for Spanish heavyweights Sevilla when he netted 18 times in 42 appearances across all competitions. The Frenchman has already netted 7 times in 8 outings this term, which includes a hat-trick against Maribor in the UEFA Champions League. He is a menace inside the box with his movements and positioning, and holds everything that Chelsea now need to sort their striker conundrum out.
