Sheffield Wednesday, aside from a 3-0 win against a distinctly out of sorts Leeds United, have been in uninspiring form in the league of late and need a pick-me-up.
A South Yorkshire derby early on Saturday against Barnsley should be enough to raise the atmosphere at Hillsborough and there should be plenty of motivation for the home side.
4 defeats in 5 and only 1 win in 6 for Wednesday may mean a fair betting price is on offer for them, though a closer look is more encouraging. The Owls have won 3 of their last 4 at home, scoring 10 goals in the process and another 4-4-2 line-up featuring the following personnel is expected:
The admirable Irish international is still going very strong in this division and is expected to start between the sticks again.
The full-back is going well and continues to tempt a few Premier League sides, though no big move has been made as yet.
Solid central defender, but he’ll be playing with a new partner this week and will have to be at his very best.
Although he was not given the call from the bench when Loovens was sent off last time, he may well be given a start here in the main man’s absence.
Another start at left-back and a decent performance here would go a long way in him becoming a crowd favourite.
The winger is still going well in this division and is a firm part of the furniture at Hillsborough.
Lee and Bannan were very solid in the middle last season, but change is sometimes good and they have been rather stagnant of late. That said, this pair is important at home and could create plenty of chances again this week.
You can’t help feel his career should have counted for much more, though his quality on the ball remains important for this team.
Another key part of a solid, settled side from last season but again some change may be needed including this position.
The former Norwich man still possesses quality up front but is no longer considered prolific.
The ex-Wolves man still knows where the goal is, though given what happened last season, it is hard to imagine that he played for Marseille!
