Petr Cech, A Legend In Blue (Chelsea) And A Future Champion In Red (Arsenal)?

Arsenal certainly went out and got one of the best goalkeepers ever to grace the game of football, the surprising bit was how easily Jose Mourinho let go of the Czech goalkeeper to a direct rival for the Blues.

Petr Cech played against his former employers in the recently concluded Community Shield where his new team defeated Chelsea by a solitary goal. Cech showed just how good he is by keeping out a great free-kick by Oscar and also controlled his team of defenders ahead of him. The price tag also wasn’t that high for the goalkeeper and at 33-years-old, he still has a few seasons left in him to keep the number one spot at Arsenal. The question then arises, have Arsenal got the right man or is it a false dawn?

A legend in Blue and a future champion in Red?

Petr Cech isn’t any normal goalkeeper, he has won almost everything there is in club football with the Blues. He has a number of goalkeeping records for the Blues and that could be just why Arsenal tried to bring him to over to the Red side.

Cech knows how to deal with a range of players, having played under various managers and still has the ability to do well in his position. The fight between Courtois and Cech isn’t such that Cech lost the battle but the fact that Courtois is younger and he was not willing to remain on loan yet again from Chelsea.

Cech signing for Arsenal is a great boost for the Gunners, not only have the Gunners been able to bring in one of the greatest goalkeepers in the Premier League era, they have also fixed one of their biggest problems over the past few seasons. The need to have a great goalkeeper who plays with confidence and has leadership qualities cannot be understated. Cech is certainly a leader from the back and that would help Arsenal’s defenders have more confidence in their goalkeeper, or at least more confidence than when they play with Ospina or Szczesny in goal.

Cech will be looking to help Arsenal get over the Premier League finish line, Arsenal have always a great goalkeeper since the days of David Seaman and Cech certainly fills those shoes and a bit more. The former Chelsea goalkeeper might have moved between the greatest of rivals, but he still holds the utmost respect from both sets of fans.

Strong, athletic and decisive, he is everything a modern-day goalkeeper needs to be and Arsenal certainly have pulled off a coup in signing a goalkeeper who could play a huge role in deciding the fate of the Premier League title.
