Why Leroy Sane Has What It Takes To Have A Breathtaking 2017/18 Season
The 21-year-old Germany international joined Manchester City from Bundesliga club FC Schalke for a sum of £37million last year and hasn’t looked back since then. The tricky winger made his debut for The Sky Blues in a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester United and soon went on to score his first goal for the club in a 2-1 win over Arsenal.
Leroy Sane certainly managed to be a stand out amongst the signings that City made last season, as the 21-year-old managed to make a better impression than Claudio Bravo, Ilkay Gundogan and John Stones. In fact, Sane even managed to outshine the club’s much talked about January signing, Gabriel Jesus.
Although he did not see much game time last season, Sane still managed to make an impression with his speed and creativity. The German winger is just starting to show glimpses of what he can do and is already on track to get even better next season.
Pep Guardiola has taken the young German under his wing and is handling him with utmost care. The Spanish manager did not put too much pressure on Sane, starting him in just 4 League games before the end of 2016. The slow approach worked wonders for the young winger as he went on to produce one his best performances in City colours against Arsenal. Not only did Sane display his quality but also managed to combine well with Sergio Aguero to form one of the League’s most lethal partnerships towards the end of the season.
Similar to that of a young Cristiano Ronaldo, Sane combines amazing technical ability, physicality and calmness on the ball, making him look like a far more mature footballer than he actually is. Not only does he possess incredible pace but also combines it with incredible timing, and finishing of the highest quality. With an attacking lineup that already includes the likes of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling, the 21-year-old German winger is looking like he’d outshine them all.
With the departure of Jesus Navas and the imminent departure of Nolito, Leroy Sane can be assured of regular first team football next season. With Raheem Sterling on the right and Sane himself on the left, Manchester City possesses two of the best young wingers in the Premier League. The kind of positive impact both youngsters could make for City next season is unimaginable.
