Crystal Palace opinion – Eagles should renew their interest in Joe Lolley

According to a report in Daily Mail back in December, Crystal Palace expressed their interest to sign Nottingham Forest winger Joe Lolley. Obviously, they were looking to sign the player in the January window, but it didn’t happen.

Along with the Eagles, West Brom and Watford have also been taking a close look at the player for some time now (h/t Daily Mail).

The 26-year-old has had a great season for the Tricky Trees, scoring 10 goals and assisting 11 in 45 league appearances. That amounts to about one-third of the goal contributions the whole team has managed this campaign.

On the other hand, Palace are safe to play Premier League football for one more year. However, they should be looking to add more quality to their front-line before the start of next season. Here’s why renewing their interest in Lolley would be the right step:

Palace need more goals from wide areas

If we analyse the season Crystal Palace have played, they have relied on Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend to create and score goals.

Roy Hodgson’s men have managed to score only 43 goals in 36 league games (this stat before the Cardiff game), 13 of which have come from the above-mentioned duo. They have assisted six more goals as well.

Now, switching to the transfer issues, the Eagles may even lose their talisman Zaha, who has expressed his desire to play for a club in the Champions League.

Hence, it is clear that the club needs a wide player, either to back up Zaha or replace him in the longer run. Looking at Lolley’s stats, we can say he could be the right man for them.

Conclusion

Back in December, when Palace were last tracking Lolley for a possible deal, it was evident that they need more quality on the front-line. They have to make sure that the offer is made in the summer window and the player arrives at Selhurst Park before the start of next season.
