Should Tottenham Take The Risk Of Signing Max Meyer From Shalke?

Standing as one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League for more than a year now, Tottenham Hotspur will now look to take the next step towards winning silverware this season and Mauricio Pochettino does not seem too worried about his side’s chances in various competitions.

He is yet to make a single addition to his squad but with the transfer activity around him, he is bound to make one or two high profile signings who are sure to help the squad this season. There are a number of players on the wish-list of the Argentine manager and one such player, who could be perfect for Spurs is German star, Max Meyer.

Speaking in a recent interview, the 21-year old revealed that he is up for a move this summer and that he is waiting for the right destination. Pochettino should surely make a move for him this summer.

Born and brought up in Germany, Meyer joined Schalke as a youth player back in 2009 and in just three years, he made his debut for the senior side. He has been a regular at the club in the last couple of seasons but has decided not to extend his contract in Germany, as he searches for regular playing time.

The biggest clubs in the Bundesliga are scouting him but at just 21, he is probably still not ready for the highest stage, which makes him the perfect player for Pochettino to nurture. Known for his versatility in the final third, Meyer is a strong playmaker who loves to hold the ball up in dangerous areas. His dribbling abilities along with his vision make him a dangerous player while his work rate only makes him more of an asset.

He has to work on his defensive contributions and will learn the art of winning air balls in the years to come. But with four international appearances for Germany, 122 Bundesliga appearances, and 16 Champions League appearances to his name, all at the age of 21, he is one of the most exciting starlets up for grabs in Europe at the moment.

Also wanted by Liverpool, Meyer is a perfect fit for the English style of play and also ticks almost every box in Pochettino’s rule book for recruitment. His age and potential will excite the Argentine manager and with an attacker being the utmost priority for the club, Pochettino should look to sign Meyer. After all, Max Meyer might not take too long to sparkle in England.
