133 chances created in 32 games: Why Klopp must go all out for this £18m creative wizard

According to a report by the Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in a move for Ajax sensation Hakim Ziyech this summer. After months of anticipation, the club’s attempt to sign Lyon captain Nabil Fekir fell through at the penultimate moment.

Despite all the confusion and speculation surrounding the incident, it looks Jurgen Klopp is set to abandon his pursuit of Fekir to sign Ziyech instead. The 25-year-old essayed a key role for the Dutch giants last season and it comes as no surprise that Liverpool are harbouring an interest in him.

Over the last few seasons, Ziyech has successfully established himself as a top performer in the Eredivisie. In fact, he scored 9 goals and provided 18 assists in 39 games in all competitions for Ajax last season. In addition to that, his creative skills are quite impressive as well.

According to Squawka, Ziyech created a whopping 133 chances in 32 top-flight appearances for Ajax in the recently concluded campaign. These numbers provide a solid picture of what Ziyech would bring to Liverpool.

Furthermore, he should find it easy to slot into Klopp’s system at Liverpool. The German manager predominantly utilised a 4-3-3 formation last season. Incidentally, Ajax did the same and Ziyech played at the tip of the three-man midfield.

He could play in the same position at Anfield as well, thus making him a solid replacement for Philippe Coutinho. Since the Brazilian’s departure to Barcelona in January, the Reds have lacked a solid playmaker and Ziyech could be the ideal solution to their woes.

Ziyech’s present release-clause stands at just £18m – a bargain in today’s market. And considering his skills and potential, it would be a wise move for Liverpool to pursue a move for the Moroccan.

Ziyech’s strength lies in his left foot, and his creativity can help unlock some of the toughest defences. Also, he possesses the ability to score from set-pieces and Liverpool could certainly benefit from a player of his calibre.

It must be noted that Ziyech is immensely versatile as well. Much like Coutinho, the Ajax star can also play out wide. He has also been utilised as a secondary striker on certain occasions.

Thus, taking all these facts into consideration, Liverpool must definitely make a move for Ziyech this summer. He has all the qualities required to succeed in the Premier League and he would bring in some much-needed creativity to the Reds’ midfield.
