Two Deadline Day Deals That Cardiff City Should Look To Complete

After Cardiff came unstuck against the mighty Manchester City at home in the FA Cup this weekend, the Welsh side will now go back to focusing on their attempt to be promoted to the Premier League. Their squad is threadbare compared to many of their rivals in the race to the promised land.

Neil Warnock is a confident Championship manager but he will know that it would be difficult to maintain his team’s current level if he wants to maintain the excellent run that they have been on since the start of the season. Here is what the Bluebirds will be looking to do on the deadline day.

Gary Madine

Cardiff will be looking to improve the striking options that they currently have at the club and they have been heavily linked with Bolton goalscorer Gary Madine. He has already scored 10 times in 29 appearances this season with a struggling Bolton side and would likely be even more prolific with a more established Championship side. It seems like a good fit since Cardiff have recently struggled for goals.

A player who can create goals from almost nothing would be a fine addition to the squad. Bolton may be reluctant to let go of one of their prized assets but the hierarchy in Lancashire will be aware that they could get a good price out of a Cardiff team who are desperate for goals.

Yasin Ben El-Mhanni

Although Cardiff appear to be in the market for a striker, adding a tricky winger who can play in the hole may add some much-needed firepower to the Bluebirds attack. Yasin Ben El-Mhanni has been linked with several Championship clubs and appears to want a way out of the toxic environment of the Newcastle Under 23s squad. He would likely be a squad player if he moved to the Welsh side and may not yet be ready for the rigours of the Championship.

Dubbed the ‘non-league Riyad Mahrez’, El-Mhanni has not progressed as Rafa Benitez had hoped when he first signed him and has only made 2 appearances for the Magpies, which were in the FA Cup last year. This would be a far more risky signing than Gary Madine but may have long-term benefits.

However, Neil Warnock will be focused on just getting through to the end of the season and challenge for promotion rather than worrying about what will or will not happen in a few years time.
