Two free agents Roy Hodgson could consider bringing to Crystal Palace

With the January window done and dusted, most clubs are preparing for the remaining half of the season while also keeping one eye on the market to find good players for the summer transfer window.

However, Crystal Palace might be looking to add to their squad despite making significant signings on all three fronts. Ever since Roy Hodgson took charge of the Eagles, their performances on the field have considerably improved and their business in the recently concluded January window was rather impressive as well.

Hodgson managed to seal deals for midfielder Erdal Rakip on loan with striker Alexander Sorloth and centre-back Jaroslaw Jach joining permanently. More than anything else the club needed a new striker this season and to that end, a deal for a player as promising as Sorloth seems like a massive step in the right direction.

However, one might be concerned about the player’s adaptability and his displays on the big stage. After all, he did join from FC Midtjylland and it might be a while before he can deliver stunning performances in the Premier League.

With that in mind, the manager might be on the lookout for newer recruits to truly bolster his team’s chances. Despite spending a good majority of the season so far in the bottom of the table, Palace have managed to climb up to the 13th spot and although they are far from danger, they need to continue performing well to solidify their position and perhaps even push for a higher-placed finish. Hence, here are two free agents Hodgson could consider bringing to Selhurst Park.

Marouane Chamakh

With a glaring lack of options in the striking department, Hodgson might benefit by bringing Chamakh back to the club. He boasts of a lot of experience, having played for Palace, Arsenal as well as West Ham United.

At 34 years of age, he can act as the ideal backup striker while also providing competition for Christian Benteke and Alexander Sorloth. He was quite a fan favourite during his time with the Eagles and his brilliant link-up play and aerial ability can provide a nice dimension to the Palace attack.

Samir Nasri

The former Manchester City star’s contract has been terminated by Antalyaspor, thus providing scope for Hodgson to swoop in for his signature. The talented attacker can play on the left-wing and his inclusion could truly prove to be valuable for the club.

His power in the final third is especially incredible and with players like Wilfried Zaha and Benteke already in the mix, adding Nasri could make them a powerful force.
