Two more signings Manchester United must make to win the Premier League
Manchester United‘s summer business has been quite pedestrian and somewhat tainted by injuries to two of their summer recruits. Jose Mourinho‘s men got Diogo Dalot to improve in the fullback area, and Fred to enhance the midfield options.
However, both of them are injured even before the season has begun, which is worrying, to say the least.
The cliche is that even if these two are fit, United probably need someone in central defence and central midfield area to become a well-rounded squad.
Hence, they require two players of high quality in those departments to completely challenge Manchester City for the title next season. Otherwise, the “nearly there” tag will become a feature, a thing which Mourinho won’t like.
Here are the two players United must sign to get back in the reckoning to win the league:
Diego Godin (CB)
Not only is Godin a fantastic defender, his leadership skills and consistency at the back is something that United lack. The Uruguayan is a super-fit athlete who rarely misses many games, unlike the current crop of centre-backs at Old Trafford.
The 32-year-old has the experience and know-how of playing high-profile games and performing well. The Red Devils must try and lure the player towards Manchester, as he possesses attributes which fit Mourinho’s system to the point.
Furthermore, the Uruguayan’s physicality and stature allow him to dominate centre-forwards with ease and also be a potent threat from set-pieces. Godin only has one year left in his contract at Atletico Madrid, so United must do everything to get him this summer.
Thiago Alcantara (CAM)
Thiago is one of those diminutive ball-playing midfielders who can glide past opponents before they know it. The Spaniard’s eye for crucial through passes and ball control is sumptuous. He can be the missing piece in United’s attacking machine, which still needs some flair for smooth operation.
Furthermore, the Bayern Munich man has that control and command in him which will aid the team to dominate games in the midfield. He can complement the likes of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba to provide the base for the frontline.
The Bavarian club have opened the door for his possible exit, and the Red Devils must act upon it to snap him up before any potential suitors come calling.
