Two Players Frank de Boer Could Sell At Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace ended their long search for a new manager and appointed former Ajax and Inter Milan boss Frank de Boer as the new manager.

The Eagles had been without a manager for more than a month, after former head coach Sam Allardyce resigned from his position, post the end of the 2016-17 season. After a protracted search, the Eagles decided to zero down on De Boer as their new manager – their fifth permanent manager in four years.

“I am thrilled to be appointed as manager of Crystal Palace Football Club,” De Boer told  the club’s official website.

“It is a great honour to take charge of such an historic club, a club that is known around the world for its hugely proud and passionate fan base.

“This role is a hugely exciting opportunity for me, and I cannot wait to get started in the Premier League with the players and staff here in south London.”

With the new manager expected to bring in a new style and philosophy, he will also be expected to sign new players that fit into his scheme of things. That might turn out to be bad news for some players that are already at the club, who may have to face the axe in the summer. Here are two players who De Boer could sell as his first plan of action in the upcoming transfer window.

Steve Mandanda

He simply needs to go. The Frenchman finds himself in a not so favourable position, following his threat to not return to pre-season training, in order to force through a move away from the Selhurst Park.

Mandanda was signed last summer by then-manager Alan Pardew. Having taken over the No.1 spot, the French international was ruled out for a long-term owing to an injury, and during this time, Wayne Hennessey reclaimed the No.1 role and Pardew was also sacked, with Allardyce taking over. The former England manager overlooked Mandanda for the rest of the season, despite him regaining fitness, which led to frustration of the player.

Now with Marseille interested, he wants a return to his homeland. Keeping him against his wishes can create a toxic atmosphere around the squad and De Boer should act soon and sell him in the summer.

Jordon Mutch

The 25-year old midfielder was brought in by Palace in January 2015 from Queens Park Rangers, but having failed to establish himself as a key member in over two years, he may find himself heading towards the exit doors.

After making just 8 appearances for Palace over the first half of the 2016-17 season with no goals or assists to show for, Mutch was shipped out on loan to EFL Championship side Reading. However, the Englishman failed to impress in the second tier as well, managing just 9 appearances for Jaap Stam’s side in which he found the back of the net once.

With the likes of Yohan Cabaye, James McArthur, Jason Puncheon all ahead of him in the pecking order, it is unlikely that he will find many chances coming his way at Selhurst Park and could find himself heading out of Selhurst Park sooner or later.
