2 Players who Aston Villa should sign instead of Tottenham star Eric Dier

According to Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa have been linked with Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier. The Englishman has made just one start and came off the bench once in the Premier League this season. He has fallen behind the likes of Harry Winks, Tanguy Ndombele and Moussa Sissoko in the pecking order.

Aston Villa, on the other hand, have done well in the midfield so far, with Douglas Luiz, Conor Hourihane and Jota sharing the defensive midfield responsibilities among themselves. Coach Dean Smith should be focusing on the two players below instead of going for a player who might or might not click.

Alfredo Morelos (Rangers)

The newly-promoted side has scored 13 goals in 8 league games so far but five of them have come in just one clash, their 5-1 win over Norwich City. Villa have just one regular striker in their current squad, Wesley Moraes, who has featured in all the league games.

Their second striker, Jonathan Kodjia, has played just 16 league minutes this season as he has been out due to a head injury. Morelos’ goal stats, which stands at 14 in 19 appearances this season and 61 in 106 games in total since joining Rangers, is undoubtedly a player Smith should consider signing in January.

Odsonne Edouard, Celtic

Aston Villa clearly lack depth in the attacking department and Edouard is the player who can complete Smith’s squad.

Villa can solve that problem by signing 21-year old French striker, Edouard. He has scored five goals and assisted one in seven appearances this season after coming off an impressive record last season.

He scored 15 goals and set up his team-mates five times in the 32 games he featured. Aston Villa should focus on making their squad complete instead of spending big money on Eric Dier.
