Two Players Who Could Leave Bolton In The Summer
If Bolton Wanderers manage to survive in the Championship this season it will be a marvellous turn around from where they started the season. They didn’t manage to win a game until 14th October but are now sitting 4 points above the relegation zone, and although their recent form is patchy it is much better than it was and there are teams in far worse positions than they are.
The job that Phil Parkinson has done to keep this Bolton side in the position they are is nothing short of incredible, especially given the fact they had to sell Gary Madine in the January transfer window.
This summer it is unlikely that the selling model will change for Bolton, they will have to balance their books, so if Parkinson wants to improve their attacking options he will have to let some players go.
Craig Noone
Veteran former Cardiff striker Craig Noone is likely to be one of the players moved on in the summer. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has only started 4 times this season for Bolton, the last of those coming in December, and with his contract up in 2019 Phil Parkinson may be thinking it is time to cut his losses with Noone who is clearly no longer good enough for the Championship.
Noone burst onto the scene in Cardiff’s promotion season when he scored 7 goals as Cardiff raced to the title. And he scored his only goal in the Premier League against Manchester City, but those games are just memories now as he struggles to get into an average Bolton side at the lower end of the Championship. He may well have to drop down another level to get more playing time.
Will Buckley
The 28-year-old former Sunderland player, Will Buckley, has not played this month for Phil Parkinson and must be considering his options, his contract runs out in 2019 and as he moves into his late 20s this summer is probably the only chance that Bolton have to make some money from him.
He was signed for £1.8million but hasn’t always fit into Phil Parkinson’s side, he is clearly a talented player and he might be a good route with the inflated market to obtain some money so that Wanderers can buy some younger players.
It is always a risk letting a player like Buckley go as he may be utilised better by a different manager and may come back to haunt his former club, but it is a risk worth taking.
