2 players who could leave Huddersfield Town in the summer including 27-year-old with 172 appearances

Two Players Who Could Leave Huddersfield At The End Of The Season

After a bright start to their first ever Premier League campaign, Huddersfield Town find themselves involved in the scrap for survival in the English top tier.

The Terriers, promoted through the Championship playoffs, began strongly but now sit in 14th place, just three points above 18th-placed Swansea. All is not lost for David Wagner’s side with still more than 10 games left to be played, but they will need to find a way to get positive results if they are to survive the relegation battle.

While the club will be concentrating on finishing the season strongly, they will also have an eye on the next season and plans for the summer window will slowly be taking shape.

Much of it will depend on where they finish in the table, but there could very well be a few players who could be set to leave, irrespective of that. And here we look at two such players that are likely to leave the John Smith stadium come the end of the season;

Dean Whitehead

The 36-year old midfielder’s contract is up at the end of the season and he is very much likely to leave the John Smith stadium once that happens. The Englishman joined the Terriers back in the summer of 2015, on a free transfer from Middlesbrough and has made 62 appearances for the club, registering two assists in the process. He has featured only six times in all competitions this term.

Whitehead himself indicated in January that he was giving serious consideration to his future at the club, claiming that he is undecided whether to move into coaching or continue his playing career. If he does decide to carry on playing beyond this season, it is very unlikely that it will be at Huddersfield.

Sean Scannell

The 27-year old winger was away on loan at Championship side Burton Albion but was called back in January after he suffered a hamstring injury. Since his return, Scannell has featured just once for Wagner’s side in the FA Cup, before another injury has seen him get sidelined.

The winger joined the Terriers back in 2012 from Crystal Palace and is currently the longest-serving player at the club. In this period, Scannell has notched up 172 appearances for the Yorkshire based outfit, scoring 9 times and registering 17 assists.

However, over the past couple of seasons, his involvement with the first-team has been reducing and given that he will have just a year left on his deal in the summer, Huddersfield might look to offload him.
