2 Signings Liverpool Desperately Need To Complete Before Deadline Including This Arsenal Star

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Two Players Who Liverpool Could Sign Before The Transfer Deadline Day

Liverpool’s season has started on a bright note following a commanding win against Bundesliga outfit TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, which secured them a Champions League berth. They have been drawn alongside Spartak Moscow, Sevilla, and Maribor – an easier group compared to what Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have got for their 2017-18 UEFA Champions League campaign.

The big 4-0 win against Arsenal has sent out a strong message to everyone but with less than a week left in the summer transfer window, the supporters, as well as experts, are far from convinced by Jurgen Klopp’s transfer strategy. Although the Reds have acquired wingman Mohamed Salah, left-back Andrew Robertson, and young forward Dominic Solanke, their defensive frailty has been scrutinised time and again and things have not changed much.

A couple of incomings, however, are expected on or before 31st August. Although it is difficult to strike a deal this late in the window, we are aware of Liverpool’s determination and eagerness to strengthen their squad with proper inclusions.

Here are two players who could arrive at Anfield soon:

Virgil Van Dijk

Talks with Southampton regarding their prized asset Virgil Van Dijk hit a stumbling block due to the Saints’ unwillingness to let the Dutchman leave, particularly to Liverpool. Chelsea are reportedly keen to have him as well and are expected to bid for him once they receive Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino’s approval.

Liverpool, who have repeatedly raided the Hampshire outfit since their promotion to top tier of English football, were forced to issue a public apology and stopped pursuing Van Dijk after Southampton’s objection of a ‘tapping up’ early in the transfer window. But the Reds are still keen on bringing him in to bolster their vulnerable back-line. Southampton have brought in Jan Bednarek and Wesley Hoedt to reconstruct their central defence and so a deal for Van Dijk doesn’t look as strenuous as it was a couple of months back.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Jurgen Klopp has been a long-term admirer of the Englishman who has been tremendous for Arsenal over the past few months. His deal runs out next summer and despite Wenger’s intention to retain him this season and let him leave for free next year, the 24-year old midfielder might be transferred out for a fee of £35million in late hours. Liverpool

There are reports that Chelsea have already agreed on a fee with Arsenal over the transfer of the outstanding Oxlade Chamberlain and if Klopp can manage to lodge a late bid to hijack Chelsea’s move, it would be smart. Liverpool are sweating on Philippe Coutinho’s future who has handed in a transfer request amidst interests from Barcelona.

Adam Lallana is out for months with injury and Klopp does not have a quality winger other than Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Chamberlain, who is being used as a wing-back by Arsene Wenger, seems unhappy with his squad role, as he fancies himself on the wings or in the middle of the park. Liverpool can offer him his preferences and the profile of working with Klopp has also convinced the English international.

£35m for a player who would be available for free in less than 12 months time might be a bit high, but the market is enough inflated and Liverpool are in desperate need of a new resource to serve their immediate purpose. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fits the bill and might prove to be a massive success in Klopp’s system.
