Two Signings That Southampton Need To Complete Before The Deadline Day

Southampton played their second 0-0 draw this season as they travelled to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday. Mauricio Pellegrino will not be too unhappy with the start but is still looking to make a few additions to the squad before the deadline day. They have made a couple of decent signings this season but with time running out, the Saints will look to complete a deal or two in the upcoming days.

They have been linked with some exciting players and here are two players they should surely look to sign, even if it is on the deadline day:

Kevin Wimmer (Tottenham Hotspur)

The English defender is currently the fifth choice centre back at Spurs and has not been able to cement his place in the first team under Mauricio Pochettino. The signing of Davison Sanchez is sure to reduce his playing time and this will leave him with no option but to look for chances elsewhere. Southampton are one of the few clubs interested in his signature and if they end up selling Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool, Wimmer will become a necessity.

He is not expected to cost too much and with Pochettino ready to let him leave, a move to the St. Marys’ might be the best way to go for both the parties. Wimmer is technically gifted and at just 24, he is only going to get better and is perfect for Pellegrino if he loses his Dutch centre back before the deadline day.

Loic Remy (Chelsea)

Another player linked with a move to the club is Chelsea star, Loic Remy. The French striker joined the Blues a few years ago but is yet to cement his place in the first team and has no real place in the squad under Antonio Conte, who is ready to sell him. Newcastle United and Southampton are both interested in taking him on a loan and adding Remy to the attack will make Southampton a stronger squad.

With loads of experience in England under his belt, the 30-year old is a natural goal scorer and is looking for an exit from his current club. His injury history is a con but he is a match-winner and will add a different dimension to the attack.

The Saints have a decent squad and have already kept a couple of clean sheets this season. Pellegrino’s system is already taking effect and unless they lose Van Dijk, they are not in any hurry to add any defender to their squad.

Do you think they will sign either of the names above?
