20 goals, 10 assists in 34 games – Crystal Palace gambling on this Rangers goal machine would help them in the long run

Why Crystal Palace must go all out to sign Alfredo Morelos in January

Crystal Palace have not enjoyed a smooth sailing since the start of the 2018/19 campaign despite the additions of Max Meyer, Cheikhou Kouyate and a couple more. They currently lie 14th in the League table, four points off the drop zone and with a negative goal difference.

The chief reason for the Eagles’ struggles this season has been down to Wilfried Zaha’s form. He has blown hot and cold, with injuries playing a significant part in his start-stop campaign so far. While Andros Townsend has stepped up and delivered the goods, he needs service as well as support up front.

Roy Hodgson signed Jordan Ayew on loan from Swansea City to solve his goalscoring woes. But Ayew’s time at the Selhurst Park has been nothing short of underwhelming till date. Furthermore, Crystal Palace have loaned out Alexander Sorloth to Gent while Christian Benteke still needs a few more weeks to regain full fitness.

Now that the January transfer window has opened, the question for Hodgson and co. is who to buy and which areas to strengthen.

Given that the former England manager will have a tight transfer budget to work upon, he’ll need to spend wisely this month and ensure Palace’s safety in the top-flight.

With the Palace forward misfiring, it’s a no-brainer for the manager to bring in a bonafide goalscorer to his squad. That said, the Eagles should go all out to sign Rangers star Alfredo Morelos.

Alfredo Morelos, 22, has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Scottish Premiership, chipping in with an impressive 20 goals and 10 assists in 34 appearances in all competitions so far. The Colombian’s breathtaking form in front of the goal has been one of the main reasons why Rangers sit in second position in the Scottish Premiership table, level on points with league leaders Celtic.

The 22-year-old Alfredo Morelos is the type of player Crystal Palace desperately is in need of. The Colombian international is not just a fine dribbler. He also happens to be a speedy, technically-gifted and a powerful forward with a splendid eye for goal.

He keeps the ability to race past his opponents in a blink of an eye and score a goal, that’s how quick and decisive he is in the final third.

Morelos can hold up the play very well even though he isn’t a physically blessed striker but his main strengths are the intelligent runs he makes behind the opposition backline and ice-cool composure in front of the goal.

A diminutive marksman blessed with pace, flair and trickery, Morelos would be an ideal buy for Crystal Palace in January. He is not a perfect forward by any means due to his disciplinary issues, yet if Palace take a risk on the young Colombian, the chances are high that the gamble would be pay off.
