Arsenal Complete £52m Double Deal – Confirmation From The Man Himself

Arsene Wenger

So finally, Arsenal are on the verge to build something big. Reports have suggested that the north Londoners are closing in to complete a £52 million double swoop for Deportivo La Coruna striker Perez and Valencia centre-back Mustafi. The deal will be finalized within the next few days and even though Wenger has made it late to sign the players, he has admitted that these are not at all the panic buys.

The Deportivo striker, Lucas Perez, will be arriving on a reported fee of £17m, while the rest will be paid for Mustafi. Wenger even compared him to Leicester City’s striker Jamie Vardy, who nearly signed for the Gunners, but ended up signing a new contract with Leicester.

“He is a late developer, he played in a different position,” Wenger said of the 27-year-old on Friday. “He moved centrally in a successful way.

“I think he has good link-up qualities, good finishing qualities. Let’s see if we can finish the job.”

When comparisons to Vardy were mentioned, Wenger said: “Yes, I like that one.”

When it was about Mustafi, the manager explained why he took so much of time to finalize the deal. The pressure on the manager was mounting as the centre backs were struggling for their fitness and the fans were demanding players after a poor start to their new Premier League campaign.

“This season I thought we had the most easy transfer window ever because we knew what we wanted and who we wanted and it didn’t come off, so you have to restart.

“When you restart, when you handle some leagues they are [on] holiday, there was the European Championships and nothing happened, you couldn’t find anybody.

“He [Mustafi] was their captain. If we get it done, we get what we wanted.”
