Enough Is Enough: It Is Time Man United Let Go This Attacker Once Helped By Klopp

Henrikh Mkhitaryan of Manchester United

Why Manchester United Should Let Henrikh Mkhitaryan Go Back To Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in re-signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester United in the January window. The Armenian arrived at Old Trafford amidst a lot of expectations but his performances have only deteriorated with days gone by. His displays this season have truly been lacklustre, which have put him on the receiving end of a lot of criticism from the fans. It does seem like he has struggled to fit into Jose Mourinho’s set-up and an exit from the club could be beneficial for all parties involved.

His lack of impact has caused a lot of trouble for Romelu Lukaku in terms of not getting enough goal scoring chances. Although United have done quite well this season, they have failed to put up consistent displays of attractive football. Often branded ‘too defensive’, the Red Devils could really use an alternative to Mkhitaryan, who was helped and developed by current Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp during their time together at Borussia Dortmund.

Jesse Lingard is being deployed in that area of late but if the Red Devils are to even consider catching up arch-rivals Manchester City at the top of the table, they will need reinforcements.

Meanwhile, it also does not make sense to keep Mkhitaryan at the club when it does not seem like he has a future at Old Trafford. The fans are fed up with him and there is very little scope for him to do anything impressive now. With an exit seeming like the best option right now, the Armenian could be looking at a future in his former club.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

The German giants could use an experienced player like Mkhitaryan in their ranks, especially when one considers the blistering form he displayed for them before moving to United.

As far as Dortmund are concerned, they have quite a good record of re-signing and utilising former players. For example, they currently play with Nuri Sahin and Shinji Kagawa – both of whom left the club only to return later on. At present, Dortmund are experiencing a shortage of goals. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored 21 goals so far but Maximilian Phillip comes next in line, having scored only 6 goals.

Mkhitaryan amassed a whopping 23 goals for the club in the 2015/16 season before he moved to United, and there is no reason why he cannot replicate the same form again. Granted, he has not been at his best lately but in the right set-up, there is no limiting what the midfielder can achieve. A return to Dortmund could provide a major boost to the club’s attack and he would have a better chance of getting back to his usual form.
