Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in a January move for Norwich City midfielder James Maddison, who is likened to be the next Dele Alli. The youngster is understood to have attracted attention from Liverpool as well and both clubs had sent scouts to watch him play. Maddison rose to prominence after putting up a slew of impressive displays for the Canaries in the Championship and could be on his way to join Tottenham soon.
Norwich might hesitate to let the highly-rated attacking midfielder leave but Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to tempt them with a strong offer. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at the player’s profile.
Born in 1996 in Coventry, England, Maddison embarked on his football journey with his hometown club Coventry City. He progressed through the youth ranks quite quickly and established himself as one of their most impressive young stars. That allowed him to seal a spot in their U18 side. He played with them for about a year and then made his professional debut for Coventry in 2014. Maddison even donned the No. 10 jersey for the club for about a year, following which he joined Norwich is 2016.
However, he was loaned back to Coventry and he even enjoyed a loan spell at Aberdeen. In fact, he made his debut for Norwich only in February 2017 but there has been no looking back for him ever since. The arrival of Daniel Farke only opened new doors for him in terms of first-team opportunities and that has helped him blossom into the kind of player he is today.
Maddison is an out-and-out attacker and is best known for his incisive runs to tear defences apart. He has a penchant for creating chances and does not shy away from scoring goals. Known to be quite deadly from the edge of the box, the young Englishman is also quite adept at dribbling and finishing. His long shots are sublime to watch and the player exudes a sense of grace on the field that is almost magical to watch. His passing skills are quite admirable as well but he needs to work on his aerial prowess.
Maddison boasts of tremendous potential and could prove to be a valuable addition for Tottenham. He is a gem of a player and if Pochettino manages to snap him up at this point, there is no limit on what he can achieve with the North London side. He will definitely be an investment for the future and could work wonders under the Argentine manager’s watchful eyes.
