According to reports from Turkish outlet Haberturk, Premier League club Leicester City are interested in signing Serbian defender Dusko Tosic from Besiktas in the January transfer window.
The Turkish giants are apparently ready to let Tosic leave for around £3.5million and their president Fikret Orman had reportedly travelled to England in order to hold talks with the Foxes and Everton, who have also been credited with an interest.
Leicester have made great progress under new manager Claude Puel and currently find themselves occupying the seventh place in the Premier League table, following their 2-0 win over Watford FC on Saturday.
The club are headed in a good direction at the moment but they do need a couple of additions in the January window to strengthen their squad. But, is Tosic someone that they should make a move for?
The 33-year old has been a rock at the back for Besiktas since he joined the club back in 2015 on a free transfer. In fact, Tosic had played a key role in helping his side to back-to-back Turkish league titles in his debut season and the year after that. Till date, he has made 87 appearances for Besiktas across all competitions, netting five goals and registering five assists.
In the ongoing campaign, the Serbian defender has featured 23 times in all competitions, in which he has managed 3 goals and a solitary assist.
The 33-year old has also represented the Serbian national team 21 times, since making his debut way back in November 2016.
A centre-back primarily, Tosic can also fill in at left-back if there is a requirement, as he did for Besiktas in the past couple of seasons. A no-nonsense defender, the Serbian is known for his aggressive and physical approach to defending and his fearless nature. Tosic is an extremely strong tackler and backs himself to come out on top each time he goes into a challenge.
Leicester already have two experienced defenders in the form of club captain Wes Morgan and the seasoned Robert Huth. However, both have been struggling very much due to injuries in the ongoing campaign. Huth is yet to make a single appearance this term, while there is no return date mentioned for Morgan as of yet.
This is where signing Tosic could prove to be beneficial for the Foxes. The Serbian international is someone with an immense amount of experience at the top level and would be an asset to any side he joins. His wealth of knowledge and winning mentality could rub off on the rest of the squad at Leicester.
At 33, he is in top shape physically and given the price that Besiktas are asking for him, Tosic could prove to be a bargain signing for Claude Puel’s side.
