Transfer Kings Of The Championship! – Two Winners Of The January Transfer Window

Money has made the Premier League boring and predictable at this time of year, so with so much at stake, the Championship’s transfer window was arguably more exciting. Plenty of players have moved around within the league as well as having come from elsewhere, though not all will turn out to be a success.

Fans of clubs such as Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City and Sunderland may wish they did a lot more during the month but for plenty of others, it was a successful few weeks on paper and now it’s up to those signings to get the job done.

Here are the two club’s who have perhaps done the best January business, all things considered:

Fulham

With continued, consistent interest in stars such as Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon, Fulham managed to retain those players as well as fill the known gaps in their squad such as the left-back role, with quality player Matt Targett arriving, allowing Sessegnon to move to an advanced position.

The league’s top right-back (arguably) Cyrus Christie arrived to play on the other side while the club also managed to bring in Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. A final move was to allow the dead wood at the club to leave and now Fulham have, what looks like an impressive squad for the remainder of the season.

I would say that Fulham are the winners of this January window given the overall situation and of that, there can be little doubt. All that is needed now is for the team to gel and not to choke at the final hurdle. I would argue with anyone that Fulham are a better football team right now than a Huddersfield Town.

Cardiff City

The Bluebirds brought in Yanic Wildschut, Marko Grujic and Jamie Ward on loan, with Bolton striker Gary Madine arriving on a permanent move. Those are all excellent additions to Neil Warnock’s squad.

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock

When a team has had a good first half of the season, they often rest on their laurels, which is not something Cardiff have done. So it’s hugely impressive that they have sought to add to their ranks in a bid to confirm a playoff place. They did not lose anyone of particular note during the month either, which represents great business for the Welsh side who may go on to have a very successful season.
