Whenever Rangers and Celtic play each other, the match is usually nothing short of a crackling entertainer and this match was no different. Brendan Rodgers’ men pulled off a stunning victory at against their rivals, much to the dismay of the home crowd at the Ibrox Stadium on Sunday.
Gers midfielder Josh Windass opened the scoring in the early minutes of the game on the back of a silly mistake by Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata. From then on, it was a game of cat-and-mouse as Tom Rogic levelled eight minutes later. However, Daniel Candeias restored Rangers’ lead with a stunning drive only for Moussa Dembele to score an equalizer right before half-time.
Furthermore, Celtic sealed a win solely due to substitute Odsonne Edouard. He scored a screamer to put Rodgers’ men ahead and that sealed the fate of the match. The only downside to the game for the Hoops would be Jozo Simunovic’s red card.
Scott Bain – 6/10
Did not have a good day in the net for the most part but he made an important save to keep Alfredo Morelos’ effort at bay.
Kristoffer Ajer – 5.5/10
Ajer did a decent job but he was clearly uncomfortable at right-back. However, his performance improved once Celtic played with a three-man back line after Simunovic’s red card.
Jozo Simunovic – 3/10
He did try his best to prevent Josh Windass from scoring the first goal but his efforts went in vain. Furthermore, the red card was really unnecessary and Simunovic should have been more aware of his actions.
Dedryck Boyata – 3/10
Boyata was disappointing throughout the game and the ease at which he let go of the ball throughout the afternoon was appalling, to say the least.
Kieran Tierney – 7/10
Tierney made an error during Candeias’s goal but besides that, he was easily the best in terms of defenders. He got forward well and fulfilled his defensive duties too.
Olivier Ntcham – 7.5/10
Once again exerted control by displaying his outstanding passing range and was trying to make things happen for Celtic.
Scott Brown – 6.5/10
Brown was unusually average and although he did make some important contributions, he seemed to be more focused on his arguments on the field.
James Forrest – 7/10
Forrest did show signs of brilliance now and then but he was not consistent enough throughout the game.
Tom Rogic – 9/10
Rogic gleefully exploited every ounce of space Rangers provided and his goal was quite impressive as well.
Callum McGregor – 6.5/10
McGregor made some incisive runs and was generally involved in the game but his finishing skills were rather off.
Moussa Dembele – 7.5/10
Dembele appeared to struggle during the first-half but he was his usual lethal self after the break and even chipped in with a crucial goal.
Jack Hendry – 7/10
Came on after the red card and pulled the strings to a certain extent.
Odsonne Edouard – 8/10
Edouard injected a sense of freshness on the field and his goal was spectacular.
Stuart Armstrong – N/A
Came on too late to make an impact.
