Predicted Wolves Lineup To Face Reading In The EFL Championship
Wolves’ run of form must be worrying their fans right now and having seemingly been cruising to the Championship title at one point, their heavy derby day defeat at Aston Villa now means they sit only three points clear of Cardiff City at the top.
That being said, this has been achieved after a terrific run of form for Cardiff, something which will not continue indefinitely, while Wolves’ bad run has to end at some point and this game against Reading could be perfect for them.
Reading play an open style, maybe too open in their situation, and so with points still at a premium for the Royals, they are bound to attack when given the opportunity and this will leave spaces for Wolves’ better front players to run into.
Ruben Neves is now back in the side after suspension, although he was not partnered with his regular sidekick as Romain Saiss was given a slight rest at Villa. Nuno is expected to reform what has been a crucial partnership this season.
The usual flexible 3-4-3 formation will be on display again with Nuno Santo probably picking the following players:
Probable Wolves XI
GK – John Ruddy
An ever-present; this would be the 37th league start of the season for the ‘keeper.
CB – Ryan Bennett
Danny Batth was booked at Villa while conceding four times and Bennett may now reassume the role.
CB – Conor Coady
Possibly tiring but still a crucial part of this defence.
CB – Willy Boly
Made the odd mistake at Villa Park but remains one of the better players in this squad.
RWB – Matt Doherty
Another lively display at Villa deserved more in his case. Another start at right wing-back.
LWB – Barry Douglas
The perfect sort of game for Douglas to create something from the left.
CM – Ruben Neves
Crucial that he’s back and even more crucial that he partners Saiss.
CM – Romain Saiss
Wolves’ bad run coincides with these two not playing together in midfield and it wouldn’t surprise me if the reformation of their partnership means victory this week.
RW – Helder Costa
He might be reintroduced with Cavaleiro moving over to the left.
LW – Ivan Cavaleiro
Could play here with Jota needed elsewhere perhaps.
ST – Diogo Jota
Leo Bonatini misfired again at the weekend so Jota may be asked to go up front as he has shown scoring prowess no matter where he has played this season.
