With the news of a pre-tax profit of £90million for Leicester in the last financial report, it is right for manager Claude Puel to expect a big transfer kitty to play with come the summer, and the hierarchy at Leicester are pleased with his work and would be willing to spend big to keep the Frenchman happy.
He could also be aided by the probable sales of Islam Slimani and Leonard Ulloa, both of whom play no part in his long-term plans. The continued success of the team under Claude Puel is important because Leicester are still in contention to finish an impressive 7th in the Premier League, which may well give the club European football next season and this would be a big bargaining chip for any potential transfers in the summer.
Leicester will also be aware of the fact that they will be under time pressure this summer, with the World Cup finishing in July and the transfer window closing before the start of the season. Here are some of the names that Claude Puel will be looking to capture.
The OGC Nice striker has already issued a summer transfer request and the fact that he has worked with Puel before when the Leicester manager was at Nice. Alassane Plea is having a good goalscoring season so far, already nabbing 15 goals this campaign. He hasn’t just attracted the attention of Leicester, with West Ham also keeping tabs on the 25-year-old. However, I think that Leicester could be in the driving seat due to the previous links between the player and manager.
Reports from The Sun suggest that Gudmundsson could be available for around £20million this summer, which would be a great deal as Leicester would be gaining one of their chief rivals’ most creative players. This may just be a ploy by Gudmundsson’s agent to get him a new deal but if things do go sour for Gudmundsson at Burnley then Leicester would be in prime position to swoop for the 27-year-old.
After impressing for Basel against Manchester City in the Champions League this season, Mohamed Elyounoussi has appeared on a lot of Premier League clubs’ radars in recent weeks and Leicester are one of the clubs interested in capturing his signature. With Ryiad Mahrez likely to leave the East Midlands in the summer, Elyounoussi would be a welcome replacement.
