Go for it Pochettino – Tottenham must sign this £40m-rated Swansea City star before his price goes up

Alfie Mawson

Why Tottenham Must Quickly Complete The Signing Of Swansea City Star Alfie Mawson

As per a report from The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are understood to be keen on snapping up Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson in a summer deal.

The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in England and it comes as no surprise that Spurs are lurking around for a possible deal. The Times had reported earlier that the North London outfit are increasingly likely to sell Toby Alderweireld this summer and if that happens, the club will be in dire need of finding a replacement.

Mawson is undoubtedly a talented defender and he can also be a like-for-like replacement when compared to Alderweireld. But there could be one major stumbling block to prevent this deal from materialising.

Right before the January transfer window, the Sun presented a report claiming that Swansea valuated Mawson at a whopping £40million. It is clear that the Swans do not want to let their star defender leave but that is quite a steep sum.

On paper, this seems like an excellent deal. After all, Mawson fits right into the true-blue set of English players at Tottenham and he is extremely talented as well. With skilled players like Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez by his side, the player should have no trouble fitting into the squad.

Also, considering the fact that Tottenham have maintained an interest in him over the last few years, this might be the right time to make a move for him, provided Daniel Lewy is willing to fork out a staggering £40million.

And the worst part? His price tag could increase further once the FIFA World Cup commences. He is a likely contender to make it to the scintillating tournament and if the player manages to attract attention while on international duty, his value could shoot up ten-fold.

Hence, if Spurs really want him but fail to secure a deal before the World Cup, they might have to pay a considerably larger sum of money after the tournament.

This move will not only work wonders for the player but also for Tottenham. However, one thing to remember is that if Spurs want him by their side, they will need to make a move as quickly as possible. If they wait around, they will be at a risk of watching his price tag soar up.
