As per a report from Chronicle Live, Championship outfit Norwich City are keen on signing Newcastle United youngster Mackenzie Heaney, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at the Tyneside club. The same report has also claimed that the 19-year-old has already spent a few trial sessions with Norwich and a move seems to be on the cards, especially with the summer window fast approaching.
Considering Norwich’s exploits in the Championship this season, it does make sense for them to sign an up-and-coming footballer from the Premier League to boost their chances. But how good is Heaney? Let’s take a closer look at his profile.
Born in 1999 in England, United Kingdom, Heaney embarked on his football journey with Sunday League football but as he progressed through the ranks, several top clubs started taking notice. Ultimately, Newcastle United liked what they saw and the player joined them as a youth star. From thereon, he has been thriving at the club and is easily regarded as one of their most promising young stars.
As far as his international career is concerned, the player represented Scotland in the U16 level but eventually, he switched his allegiance to England and is a part of the England U23 side right now. However, things are not as smooth as he’d have wanted it to be.
Heaney is an attack-minded midfielder with an eye for goal at all times. Blessed with an ability to create chances even in the tightest of spaces, the 19-year-old is a nightmare for most defenders. He is technically sound as well and that often helps him make effective decisions on the field. Although he is self-sufficient from scoring goals, the player never shies away from setting up opportunities for his teammates.
However, there are a few aspects of his game that need to be refined further. His finishing skills could use some sharpening and he must improve his defending as well. By doing so, he can truly elevate his game to the next level.
Norwich will be looking to mount a serious bid for promotion next season and to that end, a young and promising player like Heaney can work wonders for them. Also, he might seem inexperienced but by joining the Canaries, the midfielder will receive greater opportunities when it comes to regular game time.
Hence, this move can benefit all parties involved and based on his talent, Norwich must sign him this summer.
