Outstanding Tomkins, Poor Zaha – The best and the worst rated Crystal Palace players vs Watford

Full Time: Watford 0-0 Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace edged closer to survival after a goalless draw at Watford. A point against the Hornets saw Palace move six points clear of the relegation zone.

Palace were twice denied by the woodwork after half-time, with Luka Milivojevic hitting the bar from a free-kick before James Tomkins headed against the frame of the post.

Watford hit the post with Stefan Okaka hitting the bar and Joel Ward almost turning the ball into his own net but Wayne Hennessey spared his blushes and Palace somehow managed to cling on to a point.

Crystal Palace player ratings

Wayne Hennessey – 7/10

The Welshman was alert to prevent an own goal as Joel Ward almost diverted Troy Deeney’s cross into his own goal.

Joel Ward – 4/10

Ward endured a nightmare against Roberto Pereyra and almost scored an own goal.

James Tomkins – 8/10

Tomkins was there in the right place at the right time to make some crucial interceptions and blocks. A colossal display from the centre-back.

Mamadou Sakho – 7/10

Sakho was solid at the back for Palace. He made some important challenges and blocks when Palace were put under immense pressure.

Patrick van Aanholt – 5/10

He wasn’t as adventurous against Watford as we have seen in recent weeks. Van Aanholt got forward very few times and was booked was dissent.

Luka Milivojevic – 5/10

Milivojevic was not at his sublime best. He failed to control the tempo of the game with his passing abilities.

Yohan Cabaye – 5/10

Cabaye failed to exert himself in the game. He covered a lot of ground but was largely ineffective as Watford dictated the game.

James McArthur – 5/10

Just like his fellow midfielders, McArthur struggled to make an impact in the game.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek – 4/10

Loftus-Cheek looked off the pace and had little impact in the midfield. Not his best game in Palace colours.

Andros Townsend – 4/10

Lacklustre and sloppy in possession, Townsend had very little influence going forward.

Wilfried Zaha – 4/10

Zaha cut an isolated figure as Palace were on the back foot majority of the game. Went down in the box a couple of times and was booked for diving.

Substitutes

Christian Benteke – 5/10

The big Belgian replaced McArthur in the 81st-minute but failed to influence the game.
