Chelsea have endured a disappointing season and with the FA Cup Final notwithstanding, they know that they have been average in the league. The former champions take on Liverpool this weekend and will hope the results turn in their favour as they make a late top-four charge.
Danny Drinkwater, David Luiz and Ethan Ampadu continue to be long-term absentees. Marcos Alonso will return to the line-up after serving the final game of his three-match ban against Swansea City.
Probable Chelsea XI
Manager: Antonio Conte
Thibaut Courtois (GK)
The Chelsea shot-stopper has had a decent season so far and he will be looking to keep Liverpool out and step up for the big game.
Cesar Azpilicueta (CB)
Widely lauded for being one of the most dependable players for Chelsea, Cesar Azpilicueta can marshall the defence and also contribute crosses while going forward.
Gary Cahill (CB)
Cahill has been on the wane in the centre of the defence for a while now but with Luiz continuing to recover, he is expected to start.
Antonio Rudiger (CB)
Rudiger has been inconsistent at the back and he can be really hard to get past. Will be looking to surge forward and contribute to corners as well.
Victor Moses (RWB)
Moses will operate in his usual wing-back position and his marauding runs down the right will be instrumental for Chelsea.
Marcos Alonso (LWB)
The Spaniard will return after a three-match ban and he will have to stand strong against Liverpool’s mighty attackers.
N’Golo Kante (CM)
The road-runner will continue running all over in his free role as he looks to quell any danger that Liverpool’s fiery forward line may attempt.
Cesc Fabregas (CM)
On a good day, Fabregas can make a real difference with his playmaking abilities and Chelsea will need him to step up.
One of Chelsea’s most consistent players, Willian has had a good run against Liverpool in the past and he will be looking to cause havoc down his favoured right-wing.
Eden Hazard (LW)
Hazard will be the key to unlocking Liverpool and on a good day, he can be the match-winner. He hasn’t been in the best form lately but with him, a good performance is just around the corner.
Olivier Giroud (ST)
Giroud has enjoyed excellent form in recent times and he even scored in the FA Cup semi-final to send Chelsea through. He will feast on crosses and contribute with his hold-up play.
