One of the young forwards from Brazil with a lot of hype surrounding him today is Malcom. The 21-year old has been in fine form for French club Bordeaux, scoring 10 goals in 33 games to go with 6 assists to show for. With so much potential to back him up, the question arises – where should Malcom go this summer if he leaves Bordeaux? Liverpool or Arsenal? Both the clubs have been linked with the £40m-rated Brazilian.
A case for Liverpool
Liverpool have been in stunning form going forward, with their attacking trio of Salah, Firmino and Mane ripping defences apart this season. Malcom will definitely not be a starter for the club and will have to fight for a starting spot with Danny Ings to be the fourth-choice forward.
However, considering his young age and Jurgen Klopp’s ability to blood youngsters well, Malcom could raise his game a level if he moves here.
Next season, Liverpool will be putting up a fight for the Premier League title and they will need reinforcements who can stand up when needed. If Malcom does decide to make the move to the Merseyside, he could find himself featuring in a few games over the course of a long season.
With the promise of European football and the prospect of defending a Champions League title, Malcom could be tempted to become a Red.
Arsenal – An insecure but a good move
The other alternative is a move to Arsenal. If Malcom makes the move, it would make sense from a footballing perspective.
With Danny Welbeck not being able to fire the team in the absence of Lacazette or Aubameyang, Arsenal’s new manager could just turn to Malcom as a replacement. Malcom will also fit Arsenal’s system, playing alongside Ozil and Mkhitaryan.
However, Arsenal will be in a heavy rebuilding phase this summer, with a new manager on board. A few good performances in the first half of the season could see Malcom nail down a starting spot for the club.
A move to the Premier League could be the answer for the young Brazilian forward to succeed from a footballing perspective. With years of exciting football left in him, Malcom could just be the answer to Arsenal or Liverpool as the clubs look to raise their game and challenge for trophies.
However, by the look of things, Malcom could warrant more game time at Arsenal and would have a lot of creative players around him. Irrespective of how Arsenal perform, it would be a great learning experience for the young man.
