Forget Bakayoko – This £40m-rated midfield beast could be the perfect partner for Kante at Chelsea

Jean Michael Seri

One of the most talked about players in the Premier League over the last few years or so has been N’Golo Kante. The diminutive Frenchman took the league by storm during his first season with Leicester and put in two title-winning performances for both Leicester and Chelsea.

In his second season, he was also named the PFA Player of the Year for his brilliant performances. Though he has been blighted by injuries this season, he has managed to maintain his high standards for the club, only to be let down by other players in the midfield as Chelsea succumbed to a 5th-place finish.

One player who has been talked about in the same ilk as Kante has been the £40m-rated Jean Michael Seri from Nice. The player is in a similar mould to Kante and would be an ideal midfield partner.

The similarities are there for everyone to see and Seri has the added advantage of being an excellent passer of the ball as well.

N’Golo Kante

Seri was excellent under Lucian Favre as Nice mounted a surprise title charge in the 16-17 season but wasn’t able to showcase his ability to the maximum in the season that concluded. However, he still has the ability to make a difference as his passing stats prove.

How can Chelsea set up

The Ivorian is short, quick and has a powerful engine as well. With a better attacking midfielder in front of Kante and Seri, Chelsea could easily dominate the midfield battle. The two can nosedive equally well and exploit the pace that Chelsea possesses up front with Willian and Hazard.

Due to the disappointing performances of Bakayoko and Drinkwater in midfield, Seri’s arrival at West London is much-needed. Chelsea are in need of a player who can complement Kante in midfield as they have not been able to fill the void left by Nemanja Matic last season.

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas has shown that he can play well but does not boast of the physical attributes to play in central midfield for a top Premier League side.

With Seri’s arrival, Fabregas could push up front and try to get on the scoresheet. With Kante and Seri taking the brunt of the battles in the centre of the park, a free role for the Spaniard could just revitalise Chelsea and produce the results that made them league champions just a year ago.
