3 Ideal backups for Harry Kane who Tottenham could target including €18m Colombian

Harry Kane

The appointment of Mauricio Pochettino back in 2014 has transformed Tottenham into a top-four regular as well as an admirable European force.

However, the young Argentine is yet to hand the North Londoners a title boost and has decided to continue as Spurs boss amidst interest from their London rivals Chelsea. But the gaffer needs to enhance the depth in certain slots and should bring in a proper backup for his marksman Harry Kane.

Both Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente failed to step up in the absence of the English ‘goal-machine’, therefore, the club must reinvest in the market for a suitable alternative.

Here are three of them who belong to different age groups but likely to serve the purpose of forming a formidable squad.

Kasper Dolberg

Age: 20

Country: Denmark

Current Club: Ajax

The exciting Danish prospect should be considered as a long-term option and a deputy of Harry Kane as of now. The Ajax starlet holds all the traits to replace the Three Lions hitman but needs grooming and experience of top order.

Kasper Dolberg

He netted 23 goals in the 2016/17 season, which was impressive. However, the striker had a less impressive campaign this term, with 9 goals altogether but his talent should not be ignored as he holds all the traits to be a ‘next-gen’ superstar under the sincere guidance of Pochettino, who is known for nurturing youngsters with ample of first-team opportunities.

Jay Rodriguez

Age: 28

Country: England

Current Club: West Bromwich Albion

The Englishman was at his peak under Mauricio Pochettino during their Southampton days but an unfortunate ACL rupture ruined his World Cup hopes four years back and the player could not regain his first-team place at St Mary’s.

Jay Rodriguez

He opted to join West Brom last summer and once again showed glimpses of his earlier self. The Baggies suffered relegation but Rodriguez was the only bright spark as he netted 11 goals across all competitions and featured week in week out.

He will turn 29 next season, therefore, a move to Tottenham as Kane’s backup will be a profitable deal for both the parties.

A reunion with Pochettino along with Premier League football will be extremely difficult to turn down whereas the North Londoners will be enriched by his experience and quality in and around the box.

Carlos Bacca

Age: 31

Country: Colombia

current Club: AC Milan

Bacca enjoyed a successful loan spell at Villarreal with 15 goals to his name in 32 league outings. The Yellow Submarine had an option to make the move permanent which, however, seems extremely unlikely and the player under contract at AC Milan (until 2020) will return to his parent club after the World Cup.

Carlos Bacca

There might be a quandary whether to bring Bacca in, particularly after the Fernando Llorente deal failed miserably but the €18m Colombian’s style of football is significantly different than the Spaniard’s due to his agility, mobility and physicality inside the box.

Bacca is someone who is available for quite a low transfer fee, therefore, should be chased down by Spurs to enhance their attacking depth and to ease the pressure off Harry Kane to some extent.
