Go for it Rafa – Newcastle signing this out of favour Tottenham flop could be a shrewd move

Fernando Llorente

Newcastle United proved this season that they have the players, who can manage a respectable finish in the Premier League. After having to claw their way back from the Championship, the club managed to stabilise themselves in the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez did a decent job of ensuring that they did not have to encounter a relegation scrap but he is aware that the Magpies need to do better next term.

Newcastle should look to bolster their squad in the summer and could look towards Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente. Here’s why:

He’s got enough experience, at all stages

The Tottenham man has played football at the highest level, including featuring in a World Cup. He could provide valuable inputs to some of the younger forwards at Newcastle and this could help them to understand what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

In addition, he still possesses the qualities to find the back of the net on a regular basis.

He’s good at hold-up play

Llorente is an excellent target man who can hold up play and Newcastle could benefit from that. With a decent attacking line-up, Newcastle can take their attacking game to the next level.

Newcastle’s wide players can also get more crosses into the box because Llorente can act as a nuisance for opposition defenders.

Fernando Llorente

One good year of football is all Newcastle need

If Llorente can push himself to give it his all for one more year, Newcastle could be in for a treat. While he may not have the explosiveness which once propelled him to fame at Athletic Bilbao, an in-form Llorente can still make a difference. His time at Swansea showed that he can still perform well when he has decent players around him.

While at Tottenham he has had to play second fiddle to Harry Kane, he still delivered in glimpses, meaning he’s not entirely done yet. Regular game time under Benitez could see him hit his best one more time, and Newcastle would surely love that.
