Unai Emery

Arsene Wenger’s glorious realm at Arsenal came to an emotional conclusion at the end of last season. The veteran decided to step down following immense fan outrage in recent years, but his contributions will never be forgotten. However, the supporters must be excited about the dawn of a new era at the Emirates.

Wenger’s successor Unai Emery has made some aggressive moves in the ongoing transfer window so far. After all, the Spaniard has a monumental task of him. He needs to get the Gunners back to their glory days but to do so, it is important for him to sign some quality players.

The Gunners have already announced the signing of Stephen Lichtensteiner while they are expected to officially confirm a deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos next month. Arsenal have reportedly paid a fee of £16million  to secure his services, which is quite decent.

They are also reportedly in advanced talks for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira, who will be closely monitored during the World Cup. A fee of £22million is believed to be enough to buy his services and his presence will strengthen their midfield.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are on the lookout for a new custodian to succeed veteran Petr Cech. Bernd Leno of Bayer Leverkusen is strongly linked with a move and it will be interesting to see if Emery succeeds in his quest to bring him to North London.

In addition to that, there have also been reports suggesting a possible deal for Portuguese sensation Gelson Martins. Although clubs are circling like vultures for the young attacker who is available for free, the Gunners should have the advantage.

The youngster will further enhance their attacking third which already includes a plethora of options like Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Danny Welbeck, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Gelson Martins

Hector Bellerin’s inexperience cost the Gunners on several occasions last season but Lichtsteiner’s introduction should solve their problems in that area. On the flipside, an injury-prone and inconsistent Laurent Koscielny must be replaced by Papastathopoulos.

An underwhelming Granit Xhaka may lose his place to Torreira in a deep-lying midfield role and the presence of Aaron Ramsey will ensure stability in the central midfield area. Mohamed Elneny’s presence will increase squad depth in the middle of the park whereas either Ozil or Mkhitaryan will pull the strings from behind the attacking third.

Martins should slot into his preferred right-wing role whereas Aubameyang must be utilized from the opposite flank due to his pace and movement in and around the box. And last but not least, Lacazette will lead the line for the Gunners.
