Three players Real Madrid could sign to replace the iconic Cristiano Ronaldo
The interest has seemingly exploded with reports suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo has officially made the move to join Juventus from Real Madrid. The Portuguese talisman will cost in the region of €100m, making the move one of the biggest after PSG’s capture of Neymar last year.
Los Blancos will certainly lose a legend who has been exceptional for them over the years. Since joining Real Madrid, Ronaldo has won every single trophy there is to win. The forward also won the Ballon d’Or 5 times during his time with the Spanish giants.
Despite being 33, the former Manchester United winger is still at the top of his game. But over the last two years, Ronaldo has often played as a striker more than his preferred winger’s role. Nevertheless, he is a devastating goalscoring machine and it will be hard for the club to replace him. However, here are 3 players they could target to fill the Ronaldo-shaped hole in their squad.
Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)
The Samba magician joined PSG from Barcelona for a world record fee of £200million last year. He has been in scintillating form since his arrival at the Parc Des Princes. Neymar made a total of 20 appearances in the Ligue 1 last season, scoring 19 goals and laying on 13 assists in that time. He also scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in 7 Champions League matches for the Parisiens.
The Brazilian is widely known as the third best player behind Cristiano and Messi, making him a perfect replacement for Ronaldo. However, Neymar doesn’t play as a striker and Madrid must look for elsewhere for that.
That said, the Brazilian he is one of the best wingers in the game, with his quick feet and tantalizing skills on the ball. The former Barcelona star was impressive for Brazil in the World Cup, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist in 5 appearances.
Eden Hazard (Chelsea)
The Chelsea No. 10 has often been linked with Real Madrid in the past. Eden Hazard is one of the Premier League’s most talented and skilled players. The versatile midfielder is capable of playing a number of roles up front. Hazard is generally classified as a winger but he is also comfortable playing a supporting role behind the striker.
He has often been at the forefront of everything good produced by the Blues. Hazard is quick on the ball and his low centre of gravity makes it hard to get the ball off him. He is one of the most fouled players in the game and it is not tough to see why.
The Belgian made a total of 28 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring 12 goals and laying on 4 assists in that time. He also scored a penalty to help Chelsea clinch the FA Cup final against Manchester United. He would surely solve Real Madrid’s dilemma on the wings.
Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain)
The Frenchman has been making a name for himself across Europe after breaking into the scene with former club AS Monaco. Madrid have been linked with the player in recent times and Los Blancos should certainly go for the youngster.
At the tender age of 19, Mbappe is an unstoppable goal-scoring machine who only seems to be getting better. He is a deadly finisher and poacher inside the box. With his rapid pace on the ball, Mbappe is not one to shy away from taking on defenders.
The 19-year-old made a total of 24 appearances in the Ligue 1 last season, scoring 13 goals and providing 8 assists in that time. He is capable of playing as a winger as he did alongside Edinson Cavani last season.
Hence, Madrid should certainly go all out to sign the striker. He has plenty of years ahead of him and will certainly be one of the best players in the future.
