Why Southampton’s decision to send their 4-goal star on loan could work well for all parties involved

Why Southampton loaning Sofiane Boufal to Celta Vigo is a sensible move

Southampton, an esteemed English force, narrowly escaped a relegation scare last year under Mark Hughes and are now eyeing a resurgence with significant business work in order to return to the top half of the Premier League standings.

The Saints were labelled as a ‘feeder club’ down the years but their scouting and grooming work deserve massive appreciation.

They have roped in custodian Angus Gunn from Manchester City, defensive ace Jannik Vestergaard from Borussia Monchengladbach, Basel’s wide attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi and also Celtic midfield star Stuart Armstrong for the upcoming campaign.

There have been a few significant exits as well, with Dusan Tadic joining Ajax but the latest loan move of Sofiane Boufal to Spanish outfit Celta Vigo is indeed a sensible option for all parties involved.

Sofiane Boufal

Boufal, who came with a huge reputation from French outfit Lille, failed to justify his eminence and struggled to settle down in English football during the past couple of campaigns. The Moroccan international made 59 appearances but only netted 4 times in the process and never managed to claim a starting role week in week out despite moments of excellence and glimpses of quality.

His 85th-minute winner against West Bromwich Albion earlier last campaign was voted as the 2017–18 Premier League Goal of the Season where he gained possession deep inside his own half and beat six opponent players before slotting it into the back of the net, leaving custodian Ben Foster in shock.

At 24, Boufal still has a lot to offer but needs consistency and confidence to leave a mark in Premier League football. The attacker will immensely benefit from the Celta move will offer him a massive opportunity to shine at the very highest order.

Hughes is likely to offer Nathan Redmond more first-team action whereas Mohamed Elyounoussi will have a huge role to play following his high-profile transfer.

Although the Hampshire outfit should wrap up a few more deals with less than three weeks remaining for the English transfer window to close, they have ammo in the armoury to battle it out in the upcoming season, which should influence Boufal to uplift his game in Spain and eventually return to the Premier League circuit with a sharp skill set.

The profile of La Liga is a benchmark of exquisite football and it is high time for the Moroccan to justify his expertise.
