Why Tottenham star Trippier would be a great signing for Real Madrid

Real Madrid will be aiming to bolster their squad ahead of the new campaign after they claimed their third straight Champions League title. The Spanish outfit subsequently sold club icon Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for a reported fee of around £99million.

Florentino Perez will be aiming to replace their talisman as soon as possible. Considering the fact that a number of Real Madrid players are coming of age, the club are going to have to bring in a few replacements.

This could see Madrid splash out the big money, which they occasionally like to do. But for now, the Champions League winners have been linked with Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kieran Trippier. New manager Julen Lopetegui is reportedly interested in signing the right-back who has impressed for both club and country over the last year, for £50m.

But Tottenham are said to be playing hardball, with no real interest to sell the defender. Tripper only signed a new five-year deal last summer after the club identified the player as one for the future.

Kieran Trippier injury concerns

After impressing with Burnley, Spurs signed Kieran Tripper in 2015 for a reported fee of just £3.5million.

Trippier made a total of 24 appearances in the Premier League last season, providing 5 assists. He also provided 3 assists in 3 Champions League games. Trippier is a very talented defender who possesses all the right qualities a top-class full-back requires. He’s very calm and composed. Trippier’s surging runs down the right flank often poses a huge threat for opposition defenders.

The former Burnley man delivers exquisite crosses into the box. He possesses impressive first touch and connects with the ball gracefully. Trippier was also impressive for the Three Lions in Russia, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist in 6 appearances. His sublime free-kick against Croatia in the semi-finals was one of the World Cup’s top goals.

Trippier would certainly be a great acquisition for Madrid, who should be looking to bring in players capable of playing on a long-term basis. Real Madrid already possesses Danny Carvajal in the squad but the Spanish right-back suffered a number of injuries last term.
