Grigg and Morsy to start – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Wigan XI to face QPR in the Championship

Predicted Wigan Athletic line-up to face QPR in the Championship

Wigan Athletic pulled a rabbit out of the hat on Wednesday as they defeated Stoke City 3-0 at Bet365 stadium. Buoyed by the win, Wigan will host Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Two goals from Will Grigg and another from Gavin Massey piled misery on Gary Rowett’s Stoke, who are yet to win since relegation from the Premier League.

Wigan, meanwhile, must build on from the win at Stoke and eye all three points against QPR this weekend.

Team news

Darron Gibson continues to remain sidelined with a grade-two tear on his groin. Other than Gibson, Paul Cook has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the QPR game.

Probable Wigan Athletic XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Paul Cook

Christian Walton (GK)

Walton was a mere spectator against Stoke but he should retain his place in the starting XI against QPR.

Reece James (RB)

The England youth international has been an energetic presence at right-back for Wigan. A solid display in the last game should see James continuing in his usual position.

Chey Dunkley (CB)

Dunkley is Wigan’s defensive lynchpin and he will be crucial at keeping the QPR attackers at bay.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

Partnering Dunkley at heart of defence should be Kipre, who has done well this season. He needs time to settle in and Paul Cook must do everything to help the former Motherwell man.

Antonee Robinson (LB)

Robinson is a tenacious full-back who is always a threat going forward.

Sam Morsy (CM)

Strong and tidy on the ball, Morsy can thread some crucial passes and his presence in Wigan’s engine room will be crucial if they are to win against QPR.

Lee Evans (CM)

Evans is an influential and hard-working presence in the midfield. He is a definite starter for the weekend.

Michael Jacobs (LW)

Jacobs is always a threat going forward but he has the tendency to fade away as the game wears on.

Nick Powell (CAM)

Powell has been Wigan’s best player so far. He is the Latics’ creative hub as he always plays forward passes and is a general threat from an advanced position.

Gavin Massey (RW)

Massey scored a brilliant goal on Wednesday and was a pest for the Stoke defenders. After a bright performance, he is a sure-shot starter against QPR.

Will Grigg (ST)

Just when he started to look toothless leading Wigan’s line, Grigg came up with two goals at Stoke. The goals should fill him with confidence ahead of the QPR clash.
