Jones and Matic out, Bailly and Lindelof in – Strongest 3-5-1-1 Man United XI to face Burnley

Predicted Manchester United line-up to face Burnley in the Premier League

Manchester United travel to Burnley on Sunday as Jose Mourinho aims to move on from a shock 0-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week.

Mourinho’s men, who are placed 13th following the defeat against Tottenham, face Burnley in their fourth Premier League match of the season this Sunday, with the Red Devils keen to get back to winning ways.

The defeat to Spurs has put more misery on Mourinho’s shoulders and the Portuguese manager will hope that his team puts up a good performance at Burnley to claim all three points.

Burnley, meanwhile, held Southampton to a goalless draw in their league opener, before Watford and Fulham trounced them with a scoreline of 3-1 and 4-2 respectively.

Team news

Phil Jones was forced to withdraw midway through the Spurs game, due to a hamstring injury.

Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero had surgeries after being injured while on international duty. Diogo Dalot is still not fit to feature for United.

Probable Manchester United XI

Formation: 3-5-1-1

Manager: Jose Mourinho

David De Gea (GK)

De Gea has conceded seven goals in the opening three games, which points to how fragile the United backline is. The Spaniard, however, will be buoyant to keep a clean sheet at Burnley.

Chris Smalling (RCB)

Smalling was poor in the defeat against Tottenham but defensive crisis means that Mourinho has to trust the England international at the weekend.

Eric Bailly (CB)

Bailly was not included in the United squad on Monday following a dismal performance at Brighton. However, injury to Jones could see him get a recall at the weekend.

Victor Lindelof (LCB)

Lindelof is running very low on confidence at the moment. The Swede will have his task cut out against the powerful Burnley centre-forwards on Sunday.

Antonio Valencia (RWB)

Valencia’s form has been dwindling of late, with his forward forays down the right not yielding the desired results. Needs to up his game at Burnley.

Luke Shaw (LWB)

Arguably United’s best player in the first three games, Shaw appears to be back to his best. He has been full of energy, vigour and aggression, which is a positive sign for Mourinho and United.

Ander Herrera (CDM)

Nemanja Matic lacked full fitness and was taken off after the break against Spurs. Herrera, who started that game in a makeshift centre-back role, could take the big Serb’s position. He is United’s most resourceful player and is expected to do his job.

Paul Pogba (RCM)

Pogba had a poor game by his standards against Tottenham but he will be keen on proving himself with a strong display at Burnley.

Fred (LCM)

Fred brings feistiness and bite to United’s midfield. If he can find his teammates with his through balls and quick passes. The Red Devils will have a better chance of bouncing back on Sunday.

Jesse Lingard

Jesse Lingard (CAM)

Lingard was a bundle of energy on Monday but couldn’t provide the cutting edge. However, he will look to stretch the Burnley defence with his pace and movement.

Romelu Lukaku (ST)

Lukaku missed an open goal against Spurs and wasn’t at his imperious best. The big Belgian will look to prove his detractors wrong by guiding United to all three points against the Clarets.
