Predicted Wigan Athletic line-up to face Brentford in the Championship

Wigan Athletic resume Championship fight at Brentford on Saturday placed 10th on the table. The trip to Griffin Park will be a tough challenge, with Brentford having established a reputation for being one of the most exciting footballing sides in the Championship under Dean Smith.

For Paul Cook and Wigan, a return of 10 points from the opening six games is a fine return but Cook will be looking to go all guns blazing at Griffin Park and try to milk out three points against Brentford.

Team News

Centre-back Dan Burn and midfielder Darron Gibson could make the squad for the Brentford game, with Gavin Massey and Michael Jacobs also on the way back from injury.

Probable Wigan XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Paul Cook

Christian Walton (GK)

Walton has done very well so far and should retain his place in the starting XI against Brentford.

Reece James (RB)

The England international has been a bundle of energy at right-back. He is expected to continue his good form.

Chey Dunkley (CB)

Dunkley has been a solid presence at the heart of Wigan’s defence. A definite starter at the weekend.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

Partnering Dunkley at the heart of the defence should be Kipre, who has done well this season.

Antonee Robinson (LB)

An industrious full-back, Robinson loves venturing forward to contribute to his team’s attack.

Sam Morsy (CM)

Morsy has been a permanent fixture in the Wigan XI this term and is expected to retain his place against the Bees. He is a top tackling midfielder whose presence keeps the Latics ticking in every department.

Lee Evans (CM)

Partnering Morsy in central midfield would be Lee Evans, who brings a different dimension to Wigan’s play in the final third.

Josh Windass (LW)

Windass is a fantastic passer of the ball and can create things out of nothing. He is yet to hit top gear for the Latics and Cook would hope to see his creative attacker show his best on Saturday.

Nick Powell (CAM)

Wigan’s creator in chief, Powell possesses the creativity and guile to carve open the tightest of defences in the Championship. His presence in the No.10 role would be important as Wigan look to get a positive result at Griffin Park.

Callum McManaman (RW)

McManaman can be unplayable on his day as he can be a real menace for the defenders due to his pace and unpredictability.
