Outstanding Mount, Superb Wilson – The best & the worst rated Derby stars in the win vs Man United

Derby County Player Ratings vs Man United: Here’s how the Rams fared

Frank Lampard got one over his former manager Jose Mourinho, with his Derby County side knocking Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup on penalties at Old Trafford.

Juan Mata put Manchester United ahead earlier but the Rams levelled things up, courtesy of one of the finest free-kicks in recent memory from Harry Wilson.

Jack Marriott popped up late on with his first goal for the club, following up Mason Mount’s effort after it was saved by goalkeeper Lee Grant, who came on for Mata after Sergio Romero was shown a red card for handling the ball outside the area.

It looked to have cost United a place in the fourth round but Marouane Fellaini sent the match to penalties in injury time when he rose the highest to head home Diogo Dalot’s cross from the right.

But Lampard was not going to be denied a famous win at Old Trafford. After a marathon shoot-out which saw 15 consecutive penalties scored, Rams’ goalkeeper Scott Carson saved Phil Jones’ decisive spot-kick as Derby won 8-7 on penalties.

Derby County Player Ratings

Scott Carson – 6/10

Carson had no chance with the two goals he conceded but judged very well to save Jones’ decisive spot-kick to send Derby into the next round of the EFL Cup.

Jayden Bogle – 5/10

Bogle had a tough night, coming up against the fleet-footed Martial. However, he did improve in the second half and got a lot of joy on the right after United went down to 10 men.

Richard Keogh – 7/10

Marshalled the backline very well, keeping Lukaku at bay. Smashed a fantastic spot-kick during the shoot-out.

Fikayo Tomori – 7/10

Alongside Keogh, he kept Lukaku quiet for the entire game. His reading of the game and turn of pace was simply outstanding against United.

Craig Forsyth – 7/10

Enjoyed a lot of freedom on the left as Forsyth bombed forward whenever he got a chance to do so. Put in some really good deliveries and also defended well.

Craig Bryson – 7/10

Put in a good shift in the middle of the park and popped up in goalscoring areas as well. Bryson dictated the tempo of the game. Showed his class once again for the Rams.

Bradley Johnson – 7/10

Combative, industrious and full of energy, Johnson broke up United’s play very well and protected the backline.

Mason Bennett – 6/10

Should have equalised in the first half but couldn’t get his shot past Sergio Romero. He worked extremely hard but very little clicked for him.

Mason Mount – 9/10

He simply ran the show with his passing, movement and intensity. Mount was excellent throughout the game as he troubled United’s defence every time he got on the ball. It’s a sign of maturity that he stepped up on such a big night for his team.

Harry Wilson – 9/10

Scored a peach of a free-kick to level things up! Wilson was unstoppable against United, made intelligent movement and was always a threat on the ball. A performance worthy of a shout!

David Nugent – 6/10

A typical Nugent performance as he worked extremely hard. Was taken off in the second half.

Substitutes

Florian Jozefzoon – 5/10

Came in the second half and added some freshness to Derby’s attack.

Almost won the game for Derby in normal time when he headed past substitute goalkeeper Lee Grant. However, Fellaini took the game to the penalty shoot-out.

Andre Wisdom – 5/10

Wisdom kept things tight at the back after coming on for Jayden Bogle.
