3 ideal Championship destinations for this Stoke veteran to consider in January including Sheffield United

Three Championship destinations for Charlie Adam to consider in January

Charlie Adam is yet to start for Stoke City in the Championship this season and is out of favour under new manager Gary Rowett. Adam, 32, has played three games for Stoke’s Under23 and 8 minutes in the Championship so far. As the season progresses, it looks like he has no future at the club.

The Scotsman has been with Stoke for six years now and has been a mainstay in the club’s midfield. But Adam is past his prime now and must leave Stoke in January if he wishes to play regularly in the last few years of his career.

That being said, here are three ideal Championship destinations for Adam to consider in January.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United’s impressive start to the Championship campaign continued on Saturday, when they beat Millwall 3-2 to stay at fourth place on the table.

While Sheffield United look like one of the frontrunners for promotion, they could do well to beef up their squad by signing Charlie Adam in January.

Adam would come in with loads of top-flight experience and will strengthen United’s midfield with his defensive nous and tenacity. All in all, the 32-year-old could turn out to be a shrewd piece of business for Chris Wilder.

Swansea City

Swansea City were relegated from the Premier League last season along with Stoke and West Brom. They have found life difficult in the Championship, particularly with new manager Graham Potter coming in and taking time to adapt to the busy league.

After nine games, Swansea lie 14th on the table with 13 points. They have made a decent start but more is expected from a team that dropped down to the Championship at the end of last season.

For Potter to boost Swansea’s hopes of making it to the Premier League at the first time of asking, he could do a fantastic job by bringing in Charlie Adam this winter.

Adam will not be a long-term signing by any means, but the amount of experience and know-how that he would bring will be invaluable to the Swansea team.

Hull City

Hull City are currently struggling in the Championship with just two wins from 10 games. Although the Championship is a very long tournament and Hull may get out of the precarious position they are in, Nigel Adkins needs to bring in an experienced player in January.

The signing of Charlie Adam would make complete sense then. Adam might be edging to the end of his career and lacks the legs to run around for the entire 90 minutes but the leadership skills which he’ll bring to the team would be vital.
