Chelsea must forget about selling this midfield prodigy amidst interest from other clubs – Agreed?

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Why Chelsea should keep hold of Ruben Loftus-Cheek amidst interest

According to reports in Sky Sports, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that England and Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek is the club’s transfer target if and when he becomes available for it.

The former England manager was quoted saying:

So, we admire him, we like him very much and wish him well and of course, like a lot of other clubs I’m sure, when the day comes when he becomes available for transfer we will be sticking our nose into that. (Sky Sports)

The 22-year-old spent the last season on loan at Selhurst Park from Chelsea, where he performed well and received the national call-up for the World Cup in Russia. Hodgson evidently extracted the best out of the player, despite the fact that he played few times for the Blues prior to the loan.

Now that the midfielder is back at Stamford Bridge, he is struggling to get regular game time under new manager Maurizio Sarri. This might prompt him to dwell on the interest shown by the manager who gave him several opportunities to excel. However, the west London club should keep hold of Loftus-Cheek at all costs, chiefly for the future. Here’s why

Loftus-Cheek is a fantastic prospect

If a player has played in a World Cup for his national team, he is good enough to play for any top club in the domestic league. As for Loftus-Cheek, he is a fantastic talent who can be a top midfielder in European football sooner rather than later.

The 22-year-old showed those attributes while he was playing for Crystal Palace last season. He depicted his propensity to be a dominant figure in central areas of the pitch, which can help a team control a particular game.

Since he is quite young, he may take time to adapt to Sarri’s high-intensity style. However, once he gets accustomed to that, he could be one of the key components in this Chelsea team.

For that reason, the Blues should do everything and keep their local talent at the club and nurture him in the right direction. There is no doubt that the youngster would do well, not just for his club, but also for the country in future tournaments.
