Enough is enough: It’s time for this £75,000-a-week star to part ways with Man United

Why it’s high time Ander Herrera moves on from Manchester United

According to the Metro, Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is willing to listen to offers from other clubs in January. The Spanish midfielder’s current contract runs until the end of the season and United are yet to hand him a fresh one.

The report suggests that Herrera wants to continue his career at Old Trafford but is also happy to listen to other clubs if he fails to reach an agreement with the Red Devils. Herrera made the move from Athletic Bilbao in 2014, initially signing a four-year deal which can be extended for an additional 12 months. (Metro)

But at this point, it seems as though the best move for the £75,000-a-week star would be to move on from Old Trafford. Brought to the club by former manager Louis Van Gaal, Herrera was initially a key member of the squad.

He was utilised in a number of positions and seemed to be a gem of a midfielder under the Dutch manager. But the arrival of Jose Mourinho has seen the Spaniard’s game time rapidly deteriorate over the last two years.

The Portuguese manager doesn’t seem to be a huge admirer of the former Athletic Bilbao midfielder and having brought in the likes of Paul Pogba, Alexis Sanchez and Fred, it’s clear Herrera has fallen further down the pecking order.

The 29-year-old was restricted to just 29 league appearances last season, of which most of them came as substitute appearances. Herrera has also made just 1 start in the league this season, playing 69 minutes so far. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

His minimal pitch time seems to have affected his performances and confidence as well, with the Spaniard looking shaky on the ball and often out of position.

Herrera was used as a third centre-back in Manchester United’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford this season. It was a disastrous game for the midfielder who was all over the place.

At the age of 29, Herrera is still capable of plying his trade for many top teams across Europe. He is a hard worker and determined footballer who would give everything for his team. A move away from Old Trafford would definitely provide the Spaniard with a chance to revive his career and that’s exactly what he should do.

Mourinho doesn’t seem too keen to pick him in the team and often likes to go with Marouane Fellaini, who was offered a new contract as well. The wise move for Herrera to make at this stage would be to play as many minutes as possible and the only way to do that is to make a move away from Old Trafford.
