Here are two players Newcastle United must offload in January

Newcastle United have endured a torrid start to the new Premier League campaign and Rafael Benitez’s misery continued after his team lost 1-0 to Brighton this weekend.

Last season, the Magpies were very defensively good but going forward, they were not an eye-catching team to watch. While Newcastle’s goal-scoring problems have continued this season as well, they have also been defensively very poor in the nine Premier League matches so far.

Truth be told, Benitez wasn’t sufficiently backed in the summer transfer window. As Newcastle United find themselves at the bottom of the table, it is important the board supports the manager with some cash to spend in the January transfer window.

The Magpies need to make some top quality signings in order to avoid relegation from the top-flight. But first, Benitez needs to clear the deadwood and invest that money in the reshaping his squad.

That being said, here are two players Newcastle must offload in January.

Joselu

Joselu and Salomon Rondon are the two main strikers at the club, but neither is banging in the goals at the moment.

Joselu

Rondon joined Newcastle on a season-long loan from West Brom earlier this summer but is yet to open his account for his new club. Joselu, meanwhile, has scored two goals in nine Premier League appearances for the Magpies so far this campaign.

Considering the money Newcastle spent on Joselu in the summer of 2017, the Spanish striker has failed to live up to the expectations.

Come January, Benitez must offload Joselu and invest that money in a new centre-forward who’d guarantee goals.

Isaac Hayden

As per a report from Chronicle Live, Isaac Hayden wanted to leave Newcastle in the summer to be closer to his family. In fact, Hayden even handed in a transfer request amidst interest from Brighton. However, no deal materialised and the midfielder stayed with the Magpies.

Hayden, 23, has played just two Premier League games this season and was infamously shown a straight red card against Cardiff City. The former Arsenal man now finds himself down the pecking order as Mo Diame and Jonjo Shelvey have formed a strong midfield pairing.

As things stand, Hayden should be sold in January in order to raise some funds to help Benitez revamp other areas of the squad.
