Man United Player Ratings v Bournemouth: Here’s how the Red Devils fared
Marcus Rashford scored a stoppage-time winner at the Vitality Stadium to hand Manchester United a 2-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Callum Wilson put Bournemouth into the lead after just 11 minutes with a smart finish from Junior Stanislas’ cross. However, United hit back through Anthony Martial before the break and produced a much better performance in the second half.
Nathan Ake pulled off a superb block to deny Rashford before David Brooks cleared Paul Pogba’s follow-up off the line. But Jose Mourinho’s men were finally rewarded when Rashford poked home in the dying seconds of the game.
Manchester United Player Ratings
David De Gea – 8/10
Was outstanding between the sticks once again. Had no chance with Bournemouth’s goal but made a series of saves in both halves to keep United in the game.
Ashley Young – 6/10
Got forward very well to join the attacks and played a big role in Martial’s goal as he played a smart ball to Alexis Sanchez. Unlucky with his free-kick as it hit the bar.
Chris Smalling – 3/10
Smalling was given a torrid time by Callum Wilson and co. Won aerial duels but his ‘safe’ passing approach was not up to the mark. A disappointing display!
Victor Lindelof – 4/10
Was better than his central defensive partner but overall, a very shoddy display from the Swede. Tried some through passes but they found the Bournemouth players instead.
Luke Shaw – 5/10
Looked well off the pace. A shaky performance from Shaw but improved in the second half, with the left-back forcing Asmir Begovic into a big save.
Nemanja Matic – 3/10
Struggled to make an impact as the game just passed by him. He improved after Herrera’s introduction. Perhaps he needs a rest.
Fred – 3/10
A very poor display after an encouraging outing in the 2-1 victory over Everton. He is still finding his feet in the Premier League but Fred should do much better.
Paul Pogba – 7/10
A mixed bag again. Couldn’t impose himself in the first half but turned into a different beast after the break. Fluffed a shot in the second half but then provided a bit of magic with an excellent cross which Rashford managed to poke home from close range.
Juan Mata – 4/10
Mata was caught napping for Bournemouth’s opener as Stanislas made the run behind him to slide a pass for Wilson to score. Couldn’t get into the game and was substituted before the hour mark.
Anthony Martial – 7/10
Continued his brilliant run of form with a superb left-footed finish to equalise for United. Gave Simon Francis a torrid time on the left, although he wasted some good attacking opportunities.
Alexis Sanchez – 6/10
Worked tirelessly in the game. Squared up Martial for United’s leveller. Forced Begovic into a good save with a close-range header after the interval.
Ander Herrera – 7/10
Herrera’s introduction made a massive impact as he brought stability and calmness in the midfield which looked very shaky before. Went so close with two curling efforts. Showed great intent and purpose.

Marcus Rashford – 5/10
Lacked composure when the ball dropped to him inside the box, blasting it straight at Nathan Ake when he could have just rolled it into the net. But redeemed himself as he poked home a scrappy winner in the dying seconds of the game.
Jesse Lingard – 3/10
Brought fresh impetus to the attack and tested Begovic late on.
